fox_76 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 My wife and I will be taking our annual camping/ float for our anniversary in a couple of weeks and I was just wondering what the smallies hitting on, is anyone catching any cats? I didn't go to college,... I was too busy learning stuff. --Ted Nugent
Predator1 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Went Sunday afternoon and caught 5 LM BASS on Silver and Black Tiny Torpedos...We put in right before River Cut Subdivision and canoed to Delaware Town. The river was pretty trick for the first mile. Had to drag out around some falling trees. What part of the James are you planning on floating? Charles
fox_76 Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Gonna camp @ Hootentown, then probably go on the float down to Hootentown, not really a local of the area so I don't recall all the access point names, But I love that floating that river!!! Like I said it's how my wife and I celebrate our anniversary each year,... Yeah I got a good one! she doesn't like the fishing but she does like to float, see the sights, and catch some sun. Which is all fine with me since I get to fish the whole way! I didn't go to college,... I was too busy learning stuff. --Ted Nugent
RSBreth Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I usually do really well on topwaters this time of year too, but not so much this year. I've done much better on cranks and jigs. When the water comes down a tiny bit more spinnerbaits will come back in play, too. I was really nailing them on crankbaits Sunday, my full report is on my site.
Predator1 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Just got through reading RSBRETHS personal blog. He has some pretty awesome stories on the James. You might want to pick up some Senko's, I thought I was the only one having luck with these. They work year round on the James no matter what time of the year. He rigs them wacky style. I rig the 5" and 6" with a 5.0 hook push the head of the worm up over the eye of the hook and the barb into the body ON 8lb test line with absolutely no weight. Use a spinning reel...I like a 6 to 7 foot rod. Cast at your target, let in sink to the bottom, let it sit on the bottom for at least 10 seconds to 20 seconds if you got the patience....while it rest on the bottom it wiggles. The fish will hit it on the way down or when you lightly jerk it off the bottom. When the fish takes it, you will see your line swim off..SET THE HOOK. My fiance' caught 2 LM Saturday in the 4lb range. Gota love a woman who loves to fish too. Dont have to worry about my other fishing partners showing up late. Any way take a look at RSBRETHS Blog at http://allozarksfishing.blogspot.com/ Anyway, I wish you well, Have a safe float and save us a few. Charles E. Jackson
Members fisher19 Posted July 9, 2008 Members Posted July 9, 2008 I always have luck on jigs with a little crawdad trailer. You will lose some but catch a bunch. Also raplas crawdad crankbaits and their little frog one to. Those catch a lot of goggle eye and some nice bass every now and then. Glood luck fishing
