Members faded Posted July 9, 2008 Members Posted July 9, 2008 Float fished Delaware to Shelvin this morning with a friend. Fished early and got rained on a good portion of the trip... Fish came in spurts. Long stretches of nothing ( and lots of lure swapping ) then a short stretch of action.... Caught 2 smallies on rooster tails, a catfish on a rooster tail ( a first for me...never had a catfish hit on a rooster before ), 4 sunfish on crawdads...He did about the same mainly using soft plastic....We each had another 3 smallies (of NICE size) on line right up to the boat and they either jumped and spit the lure or broke line... .......All in all not a bad day on the water.....would loved to have fished longer but Dad duty called.....
Predator1 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Good morning, sounds like you two had a good time from delaware town to shelving rock. Hate to hear those Smallies jump off or broke the line. Just wanted to let you know, don't be afraid to use line size from 8lb test to 14lb test. I even use 20 lb test with a 8ft rod when I am jigging in thick log jams for Large Mouths and Small Mouths. I am going to take that 13'rod that I used for Spoonbill/Paddlefish this past spring and use it for jigging the log jams. I saw some bass back deep in the cover thise week, just couldn't get to them with the 8ft. rod. Maybe I will see ya on the River soon. With the gas prices up so much. My partner and I have not been hitting Stockton, Table Rock, Taney Coma or PomDeterre lately. So we will definately hit the James More Often. Especially since Delaware and Shelvin Rock are only 5 minutes away. Good luck guys. Charles
Members faded Posted July 18, 2008 Author Members Posted July 18, 2008 went and floated Shelvin to Hooten today...Not great fishing but did land 2 smallies in the 12-14 range...My buddy landed a couple of Kentuckies a first for him...Lots of nice holes and saw lots of fish even had several followers just not many taking the bite....Charles, I know what you mean about close being so tempting....I have to go a bit further than you but it still beats a 45 minute drive......James is not my favorite water but I'll take it over nothing anytime I am sure I have not got my FIX for the week so I'll have to find water again before the weekend is up
Predator1 Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Good job guys. Nice catch. Yes it is good being close....just closed on my new house Friday. The James will be a 15 minute drive, still close enough. I'm waiting on my partner to get back from a family reunion. We will probably be putting in at Delaware town this evening. I will let you know what we do if we go. Fish on.
