vanven Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Thinking about taking a day trip down to RR to do some trout fishing. I am begging the wife for a weekend since we have a newborn at home. Since this will be a short trip I am hoping to avoid the crowds and frustration and try to hit some of the lesser utilized water. How is zone 3 fishing? I have fished the areas around the stable, how is the river fishing below that? Thanks, Jerod
timsfly Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 for less people, go to the conservation parking lot just south of the park boundry. Walk to the river and fish all day, probably never see another person. Maybe a fisherman and maybe a swimmer but not very many people. I fished that area about 2 weeks ago, caught 8, nothing big, but never saw a soul. Fish buggers, and bigger streamers in that area, the water is flowing well, so weight whaterver you are using. I don't see much dry fly action in this area, but you might try a hopper or a beetle. I do well on san juans and glo-bugs below the park. vanven Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Thanks for coming through for me as usual Tim. Looking forward to catching you in the shop at some point in the next few weeks. -Jerod
Members trout_bum Posted July 16, 2008 Members Posted July 16, 2008 Ditto on what Tim said. I fished down there last Saturday and did very well swinging buggers in the riffles. I didn't see a single soul except for a deer I walked up on. There's some very good looking water in this area. Just make sure you release them so I can catch 'em next week Corey Dodson "Trout everywhere tremble at the mention of my name."
vanven Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Looks like the baby, wife, and heat are letting up enough for me to squeeze out a couple days. I will be down Thursday and Friday and am planning on hitting zone 3 and down below the park. If you happen to be in the area fishing feel free to say hello. I will have to swing by the shop and say hello as usual Tim. -Jerod
