hfdhoosier Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 My wife suprised me yesterday by booking us a slot at Eagles Park for a weekend of fishing and pure relaxation. I will be fishing Sat and Sun, anyone else going? I have a great wife! Will fish the fly area and maybe the trophy waters, if I'm lucky. FishinCricket Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Just remember that not everyone has such a wonderful wife.. My wife has insisted that I take this coming monday off and go on an adventure with her (it's the only way I can truly get away from work) but there were two stipulations... 1. we do whatever she wants and go wherever she wants... 2. NO FISHING, FISHING POLES, TACKLE, BOATS, GUIDES, OR EARLY MORNING CRAP!! So... I'll trade you wives? I met your wife, she's nice.. And she would compliment my fishing well.. cricket.c21.com
Bman Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 My problem is she ALWAYS wants to go...say fishing, she's ready! Say boating, she's ready! she used to have her own bass boat down in La. Sometimes ya just wanna be out with the boys, or fishin by myself. The only good line is a tight line

hfdhoosier Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 The wife and i had a great weekend fishing the park. She usually catches a few fish each day, this time she caught well over her limit both days. We didnt keep any trout, all catch and release. All were average trout park fish, no big ones. She caught most of hers on egg patterns. I was working on my casting and concentrated mainly on dry flies. Thanks Timsfly for your beetle fly recipe, caught a few on them. Size 20 griffiths gnat done the trick for most of my dry catches. Caught some on a crackleback fished dry. As far as wet flies, caught some on a white thread jig, pheasant tail and a red san juan worm. We usually didnt get out till almost noon so fish were pretty picky but we caught them fairly steady, had to keep switching up alot. I bought some SA Sharkskin line for the Orvis Battenkill reel my wife won at The Ozarkflyfisher meeting. I fell in love with this line, it casts well, is very flexible, and floats really well. Downside was that it cost $100. Well worth it from what I have seen so far, casts much better than the SA Mastery line I bought last year. I would recommend this line to anyone who has the extra cash to try it out. It does make more noise going through the guides but its castability makes it worth it in my opinion. Go to your local fly shop and give it a try. disclaimer: I get no kickbacks from the sale of this line, just was impressed how it improved my poor casting abilities. lol I also got to meet Don. He stopped by our campsite at Eagles Park, he was staying there also. Got to spend some time telling stories and enjoying some brews. Next time I hope to get some fishing in with you. Maybe you can show us the ropes at Taney or Roaring River, two places I havent got to fish yet.
