Members firebuck1 Posted July 15, 2008 Members Posted July 15, 2008 Hello all, Going to the white river this Thursday the 17th of July through Monday, but I want to fish the Norfolks tailwaters. I was just curious as to how the water release schedule has been on the Norfolk? Is there a method to the madness I called the Norfolk darn number and it'a a recording talking about generating stopped on the 13th at 8 p.m and started back up on the 14th at 1 p.m. Will they basically follow this pattern barring any rain events this week? No generating in the a.m. ? If I call on Thursday night will the info be there for the following day or is the info after the fact? Do they have a horn that sounds when the gates are about to be opened? Main reason for my questioning is because we want to fish out of our kayaks in the mornings but worry about the gates opening without warning. I would greatly appreciate any info or insight from you folks, as this is the first time for us to visit the area. Thanks guys
Snow Fly Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Firebuck: Check John Berry's fishing report it will give you some ideas of what to expect. From reading his reports they have not been generating at night and usually turn 1 or 2 on around 10am +/-. The horn they have for generation is not very loud, at least to me, nothing like Taney . Check http://ozarkanglers.com and go to the home page. The flow charts for the White and Norfork will be on the left side of the 1st screen, this will give you a general, very, of what they have been doing for the last few days. I don't take much stock in their generation schedule. Tight Lines.......... "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"

You almost just have to take your chance, but that is not a safe bet in a yak or anything that is not motorized. The pattern could be no generation in the morning for days, then it all changes the day you decide to go. If you leave Quarry park in a yak the next take out is the handicapped access. I would have a shuttle there just in case the water comes on and you don't want to go all the way to the confluence of the White which is the next take out. John Berry Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Southwest Power Administration maintains a generation prediction website, http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx that was accurate six days out of seven last week. Always be prepared to leave the river when you detect rising water. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Members firebuck1 Posted July 16, 2008 Author Members Posted July 16, 2008 Thanks for the info guys, Dano that sounds like a good idea. Appreciate it, not sure we would want to ride it out to the white river, that looks like it could be dangerous in a yak. If you guys see a little guy in a red yak and a big guy in a mustard yellow yak, give us a wave. If not in the yaks we will just wade in. My bud's wife may be fishing with us as well as my 14 yoa son. This is our first trip to the area, should be fun,and thanks for sharing the info with us. We are both Fort Worth Fire Fighters and have stickers on our trucks, keep a look out for us and we'll see ya on the river. It looks like we will be fishing Friday morning for sure, and again Sunday. Take care, stay safe. Mark
