Members FLYFISHINMAN Posted July 16, 2008 Members Posted July 16, 2008 Coming down to spend some time on Table Rock and Taney. Bringing the new boat. I am a little nervous about taking it above Fall Creek since I have never taken any boat past Fall Creek. I have seen other posts about this, but I have a 21ft. fish n ski. How many units need to be running for me to not be concerned? With all the water I assume outlet fishing is the only option when not in a boat? Have they been shutting down the water at all? Would like to also wade fish a bit. Guess I may need to stop by Bennett to get any wade fishing in? Dave
loo10 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 They don't allow 21 foot fish & ski's above Fall Creek. Nope. Not ever. Rich Looten Springfield, Missouri "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong."- John Gierach
Guest rwolfe Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 You can make it up to Point Royal with 0 units running if you're careful and trim your motor (just to be cautious) while going through fall creek (far left side of course). 2 units is a safe flow to make it all the way to the darn. I suppose you could do it with 1 if you're really careful. Getting by the island at Point Royal is the trick here. Lilley's has a really good map that shows the line you need to take all the way to the darn. Check here http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=373 for current and past week of generation. You can also find 'predicted' generation here: http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx or you can call their # at any time: 866-494-1993. Current generation info from Table Rock darn is available by calling: 417-336-5083. I would hope that they are at least shutting down for a few hours a day by the end of August. Hope this helps.
Members FLYFISHINMAN Posted July 18, 2008 Author Members Posted July 18, 2008 Thanks rwolfe. I can't seem to find the map that shows the line to take up to the dam. I have looked all over the site. Is it on this site or located at his resort store?
Guest rwolfe Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I've always gotten it from his resort when I'm down there. You might give them a call at 800-284-2196 and see if they can e-mail you a copy of it. Something I didn't mention in my previous post, unless you're flying up the lake, the worst you're going to do is damage your prop if you come across a low area. I would suggest putting a cheap prop on for your first trip, especially if you have a nice stainless prop on now. Keeping a spotter on the front of the boat and leaving breadcrumbs on your GPS for the first trip up would be of benefit as well. P.S. I haven't heard much on the forums, but I'm sure there have been some changes to the lake, and consequently the best line to take up the lake, due the spring floods. Phil should be able to point out any deviations to take from the original line.
soggyfeet Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Belive it or not you dont have to fish the outlets when the water isnt running. Been going to tany for a couple yrs now and have never once fished the outlets and usually do pretty good now that I have a slight idea what Im doing. I watched the guys fishing there and it just doesnt look fun to me standing on top of each other getting tangled up and what not. If the water isnt running wade across at outlet two and walk up towards the dam to the point of the island and fish the unpressured fish on the other side Brian

If it's fly fishing in general you want to do, even with water running, you can tie up on the south end of the island in from of Point Royal and Fly Fish the slower water on the bluff side of the island. I've done this before with flood gates open. Just need to be carefull of course.
