Hey all,

I am coming down in a couple of weeks and I am looking for fishing suggestions for the Dam and Ha Ha Tonka areas. Have there been any striped bass or walleye caught near Ha Ha Tonka? I have caught some whites at LOA in the past, but I am open for suggestions on any thing that will bite. We will be staying at the 2 mile marker and are looking for a 1/2 day trip to Ha Ha Tonka.

Your help is appreciated,

James

Unless you'll be fishing the Dam area early morning, after dark, and on a weekday, I wouldn't fish there. Big boats will sink you if not make you miserable. Ha Ha Tonka will be very much more fishable. I don't fish that far up much and I can't help you on the walleye, but you should have a good chance at Blacks, Whites, Crappies and Cats around there.

Thanks for the reply,

I'll have a boat and will get out early ... I am just unsure of what fish to target. With the boat, I can travel miles up the lake if needed. These late summer trips to Lakes I'm not real familiar with can be challenging. Any other suggestions are welcome ..

I think you'd be better off putting in at Ha Ha Tonka or Larry Gale ramps. You don't wanna run far at all on the main lake due to the big boat traffic. Lake of the Ozarks was ranked 3rd in most dangerous U.S. waterways a year or two ago. Only the Colorado River and the Atlantic Ocean I believe had more accidents reported.

Don't be a statistic! You're just going for fun anyways, right?

Thanks Guys,

I plan on trolling crankbaits on some of the points and see what that turns up .. maybe I'll get lucky.

If they are running water may not be a bad bet. Good luck. Let us know how you do.

Fishing summary:

EAST wind most of the time

Mornings on the lake were tough!

Only a few keepers, I even slept in one morning.

Evenings on the lake were were pretty good.

We trolled main lake points and caught nice black bass, white bass, crappie, channel catfish and a flat head catfish.

Best largemouth was 4+ pounds, and had a 4.5 & 3.5 pound white bass.

One morning was spent behind the Bagnell Dam where we caught our limit of white bass and a few crappie.

We were happy with the fishing overall and once Monday came the Boat traffic subsided.

Thanks for the report. Tried mainlake for half the day Saturday w/football jig. Ledgy points mainly, brush necessary. Results: 8 shorts two, four pounders. Nothing to ride home about, but some excitement.
