bigredbirdfan Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I'll be fishing tomorrow on Lower Taney. I will be taking two kids and the wife . And I thougth this was supposed to be enjoyable. Not exactly sure how I will tie all three hooks at once. About the time we are sunburned and I am hooked bad enough to need medical treatment we will call it a day. Any latest reports would be apprecitated so at least the kids might have fun. I am thinking night crawlers and powerbait off the bottom? Might also hit bull creek. Any reports down there?
twosets Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Hey Big Red I would start just above monkey Island and drift al the way to Branson Landin, and then focus of the areas that you catch fish. Good luck and do not try fishing yourself, just guide the wife and kids. That is plenty of both work and fun George "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
bigredbirdfan Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 Dang it Trav, Do I have to pick a fight to get you to engage me ? Don't dare me. I'll have the wife and kids dropped off on your dock pickin those fine vegies tomorrow while I drink the cold adult bevs.
Trav Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Sorry Red, you said powerbait and my mind just glazed over and I had to eat another couple jars! I think I am an addict. What's in this stuff???? "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
bigredbirdfan Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 Update!!!!!!!!!!! Got on the water finally after an act of Congress at 10:00 a.m. along with 100 other boats in the very popular Monkey Island to Landing area. After no bites and 3 near misses with bridge piers, other boats and docks we headed down stream. By the way I caught 1 10" rainbow while holding one kids rods that "won't catch fish". I did head twosets advice and tried not to fish. Started with 3 "charged" batteries and finally limped through the day on one. With my luck helps to have a couple of everything just in case. Bought some nightcrawlers and headed toward Rockaway. Pulled over in a nice spot with no other boats enjoying beautiful serene Lake Taneycomo and the kids observed lots of fish on the fishfinder. My wife immediately starts catching fish on the secret jig. Rainbows just can't seem to resist them no matter where I fish on Taney. She boats 5 fish yesterday keeping two of them for dinner tonight. The daughter catches one nice stocker rainbow followed up with a 14" rainbow all on inflated nightcrawlers. The wife as expected over casted heaving the jig right into my shirt at the shoulder and I have no idea how it didn't pierce the skin. The boy then catches a 13" rainbow to compliment our nice catch that is in the process of becoming Bill Babler's recipe of shrimp stuffed grilled trout tonight. All in all an enjoyable day with everyone catching fish at my new secret spot where when I get a chance will fish for big browns and big rainbows when I get a little daddy time with daddy juice (aka head for the mountains). Only got really upset about 5 times which my kids will attest is quit good. Got to work on patience. I got the first picture before she landed the 14" The second is a picture of the catch and not release before the grill. Although I did release fish today.
Trav Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Big Red, Looking at the scenery behind your daughter, I think I know your new secret spot. Don't worry. I can keep a secret though. Yummy looking farm raised trout by the way. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
shawncat Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Ahh sounds like a good day.Believe it or not you'll miss those hectic fishing trips when the kids are grown. Nice pics, look like some good ones.I also like your choice of daddy juice, nothing like a cold blue one.
twosets Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Way to go Big Red It is always great to let the wife and kids catch some George "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
bigredbirdfan Posted July 28, 2008 Author Posted July 28, 2008 Forgot to add that the kids were incredibly excited about eating their catch. Didn't much care for the shrimp stuffed grilled bow so next time I promised a fish stick like method. Maybe next time we can pull out the fryer and have a shore lunch right there at Pro Bass at the Landing won't even charge them for the seminar . Really proud of all of them and I only retied my daughter's once bc it got caught in the net. Unbelievable Boat went right on trailer first attempt also unbelievable ready to do it without 4 generators.
