focused fishing Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I'm not convinced that color makes that much difference most of the time. They way I look at colors is this: there are dark colors/shades and there are lighter colors/shades. Depending on the clarity of the water you're fishing-- choose between the two. Other guys might believe different, but I don't. Also, the report of what they're catching them on just happens to be what they happen to be fishing with... Think about that for awhile, and see if you get my point..................... Could they be catching them on something else, or some other color? Probably-- they're just not fishing something else or another color. The point is... Bluewave-- if you are comfortable fishing with some "obsolete" lure or method, don't be afraid to give it a try. Just because "Nobody catches fish on those anymore..." doesn't mean they don't work. If nobody fishes them, of course they aren't gonna catch fish with them. Wack'em, I've got to disagree a little. For years I fished brown / green pumpkin combo but over the past couple of years I have started using a wider variety of colors, PB&J, green pumpkin candy, watermelon purple flash, etc... I've noticed that a sutle color change can make a huge difference not only in the number but quality of bites my clients and I get. Bluewave, a good selection of browns and greens with "barbwire" (solid color strands with black stripes) silicone skirts should get you on the right track. Like Techo said match the craws tey are feeding on. As far as pork is concerned, the new plastic trailers have better action, are more lifelike and don't dry out on the deck. Good luck and ask all the questions you like, this forum is here to help. redbud Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 i grew up fishing smallmouth water in upstate ny,fingerlakes region ,felt like i was completely starting over on the rock because i was. i paid close attention to the posts on this board and started catching fish fairly consistently.went back to basics i.e. topwater spooks texas or carolina rigged worms, rattle traps swimming grubs etc these have all been around forever. color is of some importance on this lake when you are finese fishing ,dropshot shakeyhead etc. these are fine tuned techniqes you are targeting fish you know are there,so color changes can make your day. color not so important in a search bait, spinner crank etc. invest in a good quality graph gps you wont be sorry, when the fish go deep you can still get on em and jig up some nice ones, even in the dead of winter. good luck and dont be afraid of asking questions, all the best fishermen i know are honored to impart a little of there wisdom. its even better when you get a call from a buddy who had a good day due to your advice.thats why this board works ,not many guides on many lakes will share info like you will find here ,pure gold. thaks to all
