riverrat Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Anybody out there know anything about fishing for whites on Tenkiller in Oklahoma? Are there any hybrids there? My brother and several fishing buddies are going down there in midMarch. I can't go because of work and family concerns-its killing me! Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'll keep in touch with my brother and give a regrettedly secondhand report. Thanks-Riverrat
Okieflyfisher53 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 riverrat, I have never fished for whites on Tenkiller but I know that the Illinois River above Tenkiller gets a good white bass run. Steve
CaptainT16 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Yeah, I have never fished for whites eithere there, but I hear they have some monster stripers move into the lower Illinois river below the dam and chow down on the trout. I would like to see one chase down a trout and devour it! "He told us about Christ's disciples being fisherman, and we were left to assume...that all great fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman." - Norman Maclean-A River Runs Through It
Okieflyfisher53 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Captain, The Illinois below Tenkiller is good for stripers when there is generation from Tenkiller Dam. The stripers come up the Illinois from the Arkansas River, and while some of them do feed on stocker trout, they can be caught on shad also. I have fished with a guide there who uses live shad for bait. There is also a guide down there that uses small trout that he buys from a hatchery for bait. Steve
riverrat Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 One group of my fishing buddies are fishing for whites on Tenkiller. They are fishing from 2 boats. One boat fished a holding area and caught 26. The other guys fished the first shoal on the Illinois and caught 55-it looks like they're moving up.
jay bird Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I talked to a guy that caught a 40 pound plus striper below Tenkiller a couple of years ago and the guide was using trout for bait.
