10pointer Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Picked up the g3 vest this week, a little pricey but it seems to be one of the best vests on the market IMO as far as durability/ space/etc. Do any of you guys use this vest? Any pros or cons? Eh im just still trying to justify why i bought a $180 vest when i already have the simms classic vest already. Oh well its only money i guess Ive been more than impressed with everything i have bought with the simms name on it. its the only vest, waders, and boots ill wear!
drew03cmc Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I have to ask, do you carry or need enough crap for the storage of that vest? Andy
Greg Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 10pointer I'm with you. Simms gear has never let me down. I don't have the G3 vest but I do have an older guide vest. I really like it. It's held up very well for me despite some hard use (and I bought it used from ebay!). drew - no one probably needs as much storage as Simms guide vests provide. But it's still nice to have all that room. Problem is that I tend to accumulate all kinds of crap until the vest gets up to about 50 lbs. When my back starts hurting I know it's time to thin it out LOL. 10pointer Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 I have to ask, do you carry or need enough crap for the storage of that vest? ha yes, my other vest has everything plus more i dont really need in it, it always seems when you are miles from the car you need something or dont have the right box of flies so the more pockets the merrier for me. I think i might even have a kitchen sink in one!
drew03cmc Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 I gave up my vest due to the weight, and only using one fly box. Andy
vanven Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 That is a great vest. I have a William Joseph Fusion vest that is very similiar. I am starting to fish more and more without it. I am finally realizing that tippet, snips, a backup leader, some palsa indicators, and one box of flies is all I really ever use. It is a lot nicer to fish without all that weight and other unnecessary stuff. My heavy vest makes this summer heat unbearable. -Jerod
Paola Cat Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I've been eyeing that vest for a long time and almost pulled the trigger a couple of times .... I've got an older guide vest also. But these days, I'm using a small chest pack and a lanyard. Cheers. PC
