Members winstonone Posted August 5, 2008 Members Posted August 5, 2008 Hello, I went fishing for the first time since I was in college last weekend and had a great time. I found this site while looking for information on where to go in or around Joplin to go fishing. The info I've found so far is great and I look forward to learning more about fishing in the area.

I've found lots of MDC sites through their Google Earth plug-in. Hats off to the MDC and google, that works just awesome. I was looking for someplace I could go that is pretty much in town. I think Wildcat glades and the Stones corner access are about the closest to Joplin. Are you allowed to fish where the falls are south of town? Or is that private property?
Members CDC Posted August 7, 2008 Members Posted August 7, 2008 I have fished at the falls before with no problems. There are a few houses around but if you stay on the banks and out of the yards you shouldn't have an issue. It is pretty limited access though. I suppose you could also go down to Reddings Mill bridge or even Old 71 Bridge (the opposite side of the river from the trails). I float a canoe between the two of them with decent luck but the bank fishing is pretty limited at both of those spots and there is some private property near by.
