Members asphaltmonkey Posted August 6, 2008 Members Posted August 6, 2008 We usually go up Cotter and fly fish about 6 to 8 times a year, but the high water has kept us off the river since the end of February. We've been debating on taking a trip up there in the next week or two and just renting a boat and just doing some regular drift fishing. I was wondering if you guys could give me a little information on where the best place to rent the boat and to fish would be. We used to go and rent boats for like $75 a day at Calico Rock, but with all the water it seems like it might be better to go up above where the Buffalo and Norfork come in. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
rps Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Cotter campground by the bridge used to rent boats. Sportsmans used to rent boats, but that may have been to guests only. When Millers first opened it was a good place to rent boats but the first time it changed hands, (ten years ago?) it went downhill. Don't know who owns it now. good luck
cotterboy2007 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I would call Gary Flippin at Rim Shoals. They rent boats and it is easy to navigate and fish successfully around Rim Shoals up past Cotter and Down to Buffalo City
Clay Goforth Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I second Cotterboy...Gary runs a clean ship and the water at rim will be better for fly fishing...The river is really wide there and up above so the water can spread out and stays relatively shallow...For ideas on what to cast, John Berry is a great reference. Terry Beeson Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Yep... and Gary is on a first name basis with most of the fish between those points... As is John Berry.... I'm betting you might get some wading time in there too...
