Members Lawman60 Posted August 7, 2008 Members Posted August 7, 2008 For those of you close by you should know the river is extreemly fishable right now, The generation schecule is almost back to normal. The water is wadeable almost all day at one point or another on the river. The trout are hitting almost anything you throw in the water. There are millions of dragonflys over the river right now. I have seen trout come out of the water 2 ft or more to chase them. It is awsome to watch. Most of the fish being caught are around 10 to 13 inches but there are several bigger fish being caught too. In the last week alone I have managed to catch 8 nice fish in the slot, It is good to be able to get back to the old fishing habit again hahahahaha. Pack up your rods and head to the river for a great day of fishing !!!
bobw Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Fished the Little Red for the first time today. Went to JFK Park just below the dam. Did ok, caught 15 or so. Mostly on a brown wooley. But I wasn't real impressed with the area. The water was very colored compaired to the trout water I am used to fishing. It was dificult to wade because you couldn't see where or what you were steping on, and the big chunk rocks were hard to walk on. There was only one riffle or run, and the rest of the water was slow. I did go down toward the hatchery outlet. But ther were a lot of bait fishermen all over that area. Being I am not at all familiar with the Little Red I'm sure there are better places on down the river to fly fish. But is was great to hook and land a few. Tail water fishing oppertunities this year have been few and far between.

Yes there are several other places to fly fish on the Little Red, You should try Winkley Shoals ( its by the Swinging Bridge ) acces on either side of the river. Libby shoals is another easy access area with a nice stretch of the river at the shoal itself and below it, Cow Shoals is another easy access area to fish and there are usually alot of browns in that area. The river will clear eventually. The water is colored now because of the lake being so high for so long and the silt caused by that. Hope you try the river again, there are plenty of fish here/
bobw Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I will try it again. I will be in Heber off and on for a while. I have hear too much about the Little Red to let one trip show it's true colors. In fact, depending on what happens at Taney Labor Day week, my buddy and I may come down and spend several days that week. Our first choice is that generation at Table Rock is back to normal and we can spend the week fishing hear. But if not, it looks like the Little Red may be our best bet. Thnaks for the reply and I will be keeping an eye on what is going on down down there.

Tail water fishing oppertunities this year have been few and far between. I made a last minute decision Friday night to fish the Red Sat and Sun. Water and conditions were the same as you described and wading was tough. I fell and topped off my waders for the first time ever. . I fished JFK for and hour sat. and lost a few on midges. My friend caught 2 then the siren was on. We then visited Jed at LRFlyshop and then drove to Pangburn to explore. We didn't fish Pangburn because rain was coming and we needed to cover things up back at camp. After awhile, water was back down and we fished JFK for an hour before dark. Fishing was tough. Not much going on top. I landed only one with a small black dry. Yesterday, 08/10/08, it rained all day. JFK again in the murk. I picked up 5 the hour before lunch and picked up 11 the hour after lunch off a pink san juan before the water came on. I was the only visible fly fisherman in the rain while there were quite a few bait fisherman. I quit smoking Saturday morning to compliment what was my first tailwater wading trip since January 2008. I had a blast and I will be back next month. Don May Don May I caught you a delicious bass.

Think of all the money you can save now and put toward out of town fishing trips. Good for you. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

We will be coming from Dam Quarry and hoping to get some wade fishing in this weekend. The White and Norfork don't look too promising this weekend. Thanks
