trizkid Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 water was very very clear and aslo low........we started down in the water in front of the bridge, there was a nice school right in front of us. we had our pick of the spot being the first guys down in the water that morning . started with white pearl worm...nothing ......a older guy to the left of my buddie, asked use what we were using, he told use to try the green and white jig that they sell at djs. he was even nice enough to give my buddie one of the jigs.....i had one on me i have never tried using them down there even though i hear they work great. boy was he right. i went from no fish to having reeled in 4 in a matter of mins, fishing was good in the morning a slowed drastically during the afternoon....all in all a good day and they were tearing up those jigs..........thanks to the guy who turned use on the the jigs if you read this! trizkid Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 heres this jig....and if your going to try and use trout worms......make sure that u use the smallest j hook u can find TrIzzout
Members jeremy Posted August 18, 2008 Members Posted August 18, 2008 alright, awesome..another stupid question though...where is dj's??? and where does a guy find those jigs at?
shawncat Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Jeremy, there are no stupid questions here, just stupid jokes. DJ's is on the east side of hwy8 as you turn left off 44 [presuming your coming from the east] two or so blocks on your left from 44 exit.A little drive through bait shop, across from the super market. You can get rubber legs at the meramac springs store too ,by the hooks /flys.

Members Mike3004 Posted August 19, 2008 Members Posted August 19, 2008 While you are at DJ's, check out the what I call the tinsel jigs. These have flashy skirts of various colors and found them to be another good jig to use in addition to the green and white rubber legs. Sometimes one will work when the other won't. Caught some of my biggest stringers in July on these tinsel jigs. As far as the worm color goes, yellow and orange works better than most for me. I like to rig these with the hook in one end. Bigger fish seem to bite more readily. I will switch to wacky style just to give the trout a different look at the same. To say the least, with the clear water line is critical. I switched to thread a few weeks ago to get bit during the day. I also like Maxima 2 pound test but sometimes the thread is the only thing that works. Any suggestions on line to use in clear water like now would be appreciated.
shawncat Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Mike, like Trizkid said,"could'nt have said it better myself". I perfer orange with a white stripe worm.Wallys has thread in they're sewing department thats good. You really have to have a good drag, but I guess you know that.
trizkid Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 i have never heard of using this "thread"?........what type and color of thread r u guys talking about? oh yea my choice worm is white pearl.....i have not seen them at the park store...but pauls bait shop in st.louis always has theem....i also am not a fan of the lucky ladys....bc they are bent and flat on one side...i like the straighter and more tubular trout worms that dont fold in half when in the water.........also have you tried tecton from cabelas......the 3 pound in thinner than maxima 2pound....and there 2 pound is compared to be as thin as maxima 1pound...........
