Tightline Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Got down to Taney about 7:00 am friday mourning, and already about 10 vehicles in the lot. Fished down in front of #3 cable and didn't catch a thing.decided to walk up to outlet 1 and try to find a spot away from the crowd. The outlet was packed up close just like I figured, but my favorite spot out on the point just at the edge of the current was open.I noticed that 3 guys up in the outlet were just slaying the trout, and they were good ones to. After about an hour I heard one man who was spin fishing with his wife start telling the 3 guys across from him that those were all slot fish and were not supposed to be kept. One of the guys had held up a stringer full of nice 14-18 inch rainbows. Well I couldn't hear everything he said to them but he was not trying to be polite or cushy with them ,he was very stern and loud. I did hear him say " if you guys think they won't take you to jail you're badly mistaken, go up there and read the rules which you should have done before you started fishing". I have never seen fish taken off of a metal stringer so fast and there was a bunch, they tucked their tails and headed up the hill in a hurry. I talked for a minute to the man who gave the tongue lashing, and he said they stringing more snagged fish than ones that were caught right. I told him "way to go" give hum a thumbs up and headed home, and to my surprise those guys were still in the parking lot, I looked at their license plate,I'll just tell you this they had drove a long long way just to poach fish.
Brian Sloss Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Good for him, we need more people to speak up in those situations. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Dawgsquat Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 A good deed, indeed. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
loo10 Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Hip Hip Hooray for those who took a stand!!! We've beat this to death but these are the guys who we should all give the business to: those keeping fish in the slot, those fishing without a license, those using bait in the restricted zone, & those snagging fish on purpose. If you follow all the rules and want to keep a few fish, good for you. Sometimes I do....sometimes I don't. Three cheers to the guy who wasn't too passive to speak up! Though I don't know you....I'm proud of you! Rich Looten Springfield, Missouri "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong."- John Gierach
Bman Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Way to go! Take pictures of the violators. Take pics of their cars & license plates, call the law. Make 'em sweat. Post the pics online. I do. The only good line is a tight line
Terry Beeson Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Naw, Tightline... My buddy and me didn't drive all that far.... I mean.... WAY TO GO!!! I wish they would get one of the enforcement guys to come down there once a day for a while just to keep everyone on their toes. Yeah, we need more guys like that... and I wish I would be more like that... Tightline Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Your right Terry, all the times I have been to Taney I have never been checked or even seen an agent. You would think such a high traffic area for fishing would be watched a little closer, especially Outlet 1! But at the same time there were at least 4 others that were fishing right next to these guys and never said a word. Me, I am guilty of not being aware of whats going on around me because I am so zoned in on the fishing.
Guest kevinkirk Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 You have So many ppl coming there now and with the TV showing ppl catching LOTS of fish, there is a real feeling that everyone should do the same, hence the poachers. Some people dont thing the rules apply to them is all. Its the same on here when I suggested catch and release fishing more. People came unglued as its their RIGHT to catch and keep what they WANT to keep and the heck with everyone else and the future. I know, dont go back over the put and take trout, i get that, already. But I think the lakes there have yet tosee the impact of so many ppl catching so many fish, legal or not. Again, our lakes here, once they get really good, get hammered so hard that in a few years they are fished out. You will see that with all those ppl around Table Rock etc., increased technology and information on how to catch fish, the numbers are already sinking. Sad deal. I dive there and the numbers of fish I see are down at least 50% from ten years ago. I like to FISH so its okay I guess as that is different than CATCHING fish. hahahah....I like it the best when I get a fish to the net and it comes off. Saves me from handling it and saves the fish too. IS that lazy or caring? hmmmmmmmm...
bclift65706 Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Agents use to dress up in waders and go fishing at Bennet Spring and still might I dont know. Violaters would be doing their thing and the next thing they were being lead to the bank and ticketed by someone they thought was another fisherman. If something like that happend word would get around and alot of violaters would stop purpously breaking the laws .
