tippet7 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 looks a bit like a hares ear. i cant find a receipe and i would like to try this fly on taney. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 That's foam right ? Over the back ? Kind of reminds of something I have tied before only in wooly form. Looks like either deer or moose for the tail, some kind of estaz / crystal chenille or other synthetic as the body, foam tied in for the wingcase over an SLF bug dub body thorax picked out and finished off. hmmm.. Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
tippet7 Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 i am not sure brian. i assume its foam. a buddy was tearing em up out in the mountains of california with it, and i saw the fishing fourm with some HUGE pigs that took this fly. so i got to thinking...... i am having him send me a couple of them next week. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
mizzouflyfisher Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Here is your fly recipe for a Kern Emerger. I would be sure and experiment with color combinations. Hook: TMC 3761 #12-20 Thread: Black Rib: Gold Tinsel Body: Peacock Herl Tail: Black Hackle Fibers Thorax: Olive Hare's Ear Dubbing Wingcase: Yellow or Pink Foam Legs: Rubberlegs Optional This is the recipe for the original Kern's Emerger. Obviously the picture you posted has some extra stuff. I would concur with Brian on his assessment of those materials. This fly developed as an offshoot of the hare's ear. Kind of like a mix between a hare's ear and a prince nymph with foam. Interesting. Let us know if it works. Mizzouflyfisher
Members Oldschoolcane Posted March 21, 2006 Members Posted March 21, 2006 Thats a pretty cool fly, does the synthetic dubbing really fish well? Doesn't really imitate the insect but maybe the fish will take it anyway. For those that have fished this type of nymph, does it make sense to have some patterns that make use of the synthetic Lite Brite dubbed bodies? Which dubbing would you recommend for the ozark waters?
