Bill Butts Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Hello Leonard~ Just a little housekeeping, first. The great Temperate Bass family you are inquiring about are not called strippers or stippers, but Stripers or Striped Bass, Hybrid Stripers and White Bass. You might think I'm being picky or a jerk, but that is certainly not my intent. I'd like anyone interested in learning more about these awesome fish to understand the proper terminology and hopefully develop the proper respect for them. Likewise for Hybrid Stripers, which some of the other states call Wipers, which is IMHO is a very disrespectful name for the #4# hardest hitting and fighting freshwater gamefish in the US. I am in Dallas this week, but flying home tomorrow and will be in town all next week. If you'd like to talk by phone, PM or email me tomorrow and we'll set up a time to talk. There are so many different tackle requirements for Stripers depending on the fishery and other factors that it is not a simple topic to discuss. Thanks for the inquiry. I'd look forward to talking with you. Bill What is a few good spinning rods for big strippers? Id like to throw a fly at them and I have a big 9' redington 8/9wt.... ( and a few flies..) Fishhand Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I've tempted a few big strippers this year. The big ones are usually happy with a dollar bill. But, I've also had success with McDonald's coupons, food stamps and half drank beers. The technique is to place the beer on the stage and point to it and then her and then back to you all the while sticking your tongue out and winking both eyes at the same time. It's the skinnier strippers that are tougher to catch. Usually takes a $5 bill and repeated trips. Sometimes you skunk out...sometimes you get lucky and still skunk out...
fly2fish Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Leonard does have a knack for attracting the beavers at night . Only thing he is scared of them so I don't think he will be throwing any money at them. Is a beaver magnet anything close to a babe magnet? HC
