bigredbirdfan Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Congratulations to the MU tigers on beating a very good Ill team. The offense looked good and should have had a few more points. The defense was o.k and will need to improve to be a national champion but this is a very good team they played.
am4mu Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Being the first game of the year some things plesantly pleased me and some things disturbed me deeply. It seems to me some of our tigers have been reading to much of the newspapers. Illinois was a VERY athletic team that by the end of the year could be very dangerous. What disturbs me was Chase Daniels throwing behind receivers for the first three quarters and then forcing deep throws downfield into coverage. It seems like Missouri threw way down field or into the flats most of the time. Intermediate routes were open the entire game and when they were used were extremely effective. (Chase Coffman) The running game was not as bad as I expected. Being from Kansas City I watched Derrick Washington from Ray-Pec high school and he is definitely real deal. In my opinion he has a potential for more upside than Tony Temple. In my opinion Missouri needs to continue to work the intermediate routes(Chase Coffman, another Ray-Pec product) and get the ball to Jeremy Macklin as much as possible. Lets hope Jeremy is ok. My worst concern was the defense. I felt that after the strong start that once Juice Williams settled down that the left side of the Missouri defense's secondary was exposed to the world. I don't feel like these guys could cover a junior high team, and I am praying Coach Pinkel fixes this fast. Best team I saw this weekend, to me no doubt USC followed by Georgia. Either of which that would at this point of the season destroy my tigers. What do you all think? These are just my feeble opinions. twosets Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I was lucky enough to be at the game I like them trying to go downfield more on offense, it should open the undernieth stuff qas time goes on. Great runnig game Juice was very good, I do not know why everyone in the national press seems to put him down, he was only a junior last year. Ill will go a long way this year. That being said, our safties were short on the blitzes and the corners had no help deep. Got to fix that. I am very upbeat about this team George "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
soggyfeet Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I agree that the defence was looking a little on the weak side. I'm just hopeing it was because of the spread offence Ill ran(very hard to defend). I was very pleased with the amount of running yards Ill totaled 81. Those all came in the second half. Brian
twosets Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 D-line looks great. For the first time in a long time, we have 4 really good guys. "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
