Linhardt Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Any word on white bass running up the rivers and streams yet? Looking to try and fish a few bank areas around LOZ and osage river area. Anthony Linhardt
riverrat Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 A friend of mine fished the Glaize(LOZ) at the swinging bridges on Saturday. The creek was up a little and very dingy. He caught no whites, but with these warm rains the whites should start moving very soon.
Linhardt Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 Riverrat, Thanks for the info. Swinging Bridges is one of the areas I would like to try. Have you ever fished there before? Any tips / advice you could give me. Thanks. Anthony Linhardt
riverrat Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Hello Linhardt. I've fished the swinging bridges for about 20 years. With a little effort you can wade fish about 1 mile of the stream there. The white bass run there is not as good as it was 10 years ago. About six years ago and for the next couple of years there was absolutely no run,I do not have a clue as to why. The past few years it has gotten a little better each year. Typically the males will show up first and come and go with the cold fronts. Once the water temp approaches 60 the females show up to spawn. The females are usually only there about a week. What to use? My favorite is a 3" blue rebel. You can also use a jig, swimming it. A lot of people use minnows. The most fun is catching post spawn whites on a light colored zara puppy. The peak of the spawn is usually last of April-first of May, depending on the weather. Hope this helps-Riverrat
Linhardt Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 Thanks for the info. One last question. Do the whites run up past the boat ramp there at Swinging Bridges, or do I need to go further downstream to try my luck. Anthony Linhardt
riverrat Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 This depends on when you fish. Right now below would be better. As the lake rises and the water warms above is better. This is only a generalization, when the sows are moving upstream anywhere is good enough. If you go above the bridge remember that the left bank is private property.
Linhardt Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 Thanks again for the info. I will give it a try. Let me know if you hear any reports around there, and I will do the same. Anthony Linhardt
