Members BKB Posted September 9, 2008 Members Posted September 9, 2008 Relatively new to flyfishing and have been to the current twice this summer....fished up and downstream of TanVat on first trip and fished downstream of Baptist on the 2nd trip. I see Parker Access of the MDC map and I have several questions... Is it difficult to get to? Road conditions for a sedan? What is the water like there? Wadeable? Should I walk upstream or downstream? Mostly browns in this area? Since I mostly Nymph, would I be better off staying upstream? Any fly suggestions? Thanks in advance!! BRYAN
Gene K Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I see Parker Access of the MDC map and I have several questions... Is it difficult to get to? No, not difficult to get to. YY to CR6520, about 6/10 of a mile east of the Baptist Camp access road. Road conditions for a sedan? CR6520 is gravel, and it can hold some puddles after some rain, but no problem for a sedan whatsoever. Just keep in mind it's narrow and also has horse traffic on occassion. What is the water like there? Wadeable? Yes, it's wadeable. Going upstream you will have to get out once in a while, but there is a trail on the south side. Should I walk upstream or downstream? Upstream. Mostly browns in this area? Yes, but there are both. Since I mostly Nymph, would I be better off staying upstream? You are better off upstream no matter what you use, IMO. Personally, when I float and fish I like the stretch from Baptist to just a ways past Ashley. I'm lazy - I don't hike the stretch. Any fly suggestions? Whatever you have the most confidence in?
Members BKB Posted September 12, 2008 Author Members Posted September 12, 2008 Thanks guys... Fished during the middle of the day, about 1:00-5:00 on Wed, Spet 10th. Picture perfect day...temp in the mid 70's and sunshine..... Fishing was kinda slow, caught 4 rainbows all around 12-14 inches on various flies (copper john, black zebra midge, red zebra midge, and grey scud). I walked about 1/4 mile upstream from the access point...some really great looking water! Will be back sometime to hit this area first thing in the morning when maybe the trout might be more active.
