FishinCricket Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Wanting to bring the john boat and trolley motor down and do a short float.. Will come down and stay on Saturday night and get up as early as I can and hopefully float and fish all day sunday.. Am wanting to know... The best spot to put in and do a shorter float with majestic views and trophy fish? The best way to shuttle, and what my costs may be.. (Basically will need someone to pick me up at the take out and drop me off at my vehicle so I can drive it back to the take out and pick up the wife and boat) Someone suggested I contact Brian Sloss about this? Brian, are you able to help me? What kind of fishing to expect, so I know what lures to bring? cricket.c21.com
Brian Sloss Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 We can help you. A shuttle is $35. Bring a spare key and drop it at the shop (intersection of hwys. 19 and 160 in Alton) and then go put in and we will move your car and have it waiting at the pull out spot. Call me at 417-778-6497, and I will be happy to go over the best options for fishing and answer shuttle questions. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497

Mark Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 You are in for a real treat if you haven't seen the river before.
FishinCricket Posted September 12, 2008 Author Posted September 12, 2008 You are in for a real treat if you haven't seen the river before. I really have been excited these past couple days while planning this, but I am afraid this pending weather may hae the flow up too much for us to enjoy our float... Is the river going up? Any guesses as to what will happen with the weather over the next few days? My worst fear is that I will get there and the river will be all muddy and high and the fishing and weather will both be horrible. Thanks Brian, for discussing the trip with me.. I am still planning at this point to come down saturday night and probably stay in a motel room.. Do you have a safe place for us to stow our boat on your property? If not I am sure it will be ok in the Motel parking lot... But I don't wanna come down if the river is going to be up 5 feet and running muddy... Do you locals mind keeping me informed over the next 24 hours..? cricket.c21.com
steve l Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 From the NWS site: RAINFALL WILL INCREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY AS THE REMNANTS OF HURRICANE IKE TRACKS FROM EASTERN TEXAS THROUGH NORTHERN ARKANSAS AND INTO THE OHIO VALLEY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 7 INCHES WILL LIKELY LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT FLOODING. AT THE PRESENT TIME...HEAVIEST RAINFALL IS EXPECTED LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON BETWEEN INTERSTATE 44 AND THE ARKANSAS BORDER. Good luck - maybe be able to dodge the rain through Saturday.
FishinCricket Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 looks like the forecast has changed slightly.. I think the wife and I are going to go for it.. Heck, I got rain ponchos.. Brian, please tell me if I am just insane. Would love to camp but will probably just try and rent a room due to the possible storms. Surely you have a suggestion for a room in Alton tonight? Don't need anything special, but free wifi would be cool.. cricket.c21.com
FishinCricket Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 another question Brian... The float you suggested for us (the trophy area).... How many miles and what average speed does the river run? cricket.c21.com
superfly Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Cricket, Go to Brians web site 11pointcanoe.com. He has logding listed on his site. I have stayed in most of them and recommend the overnight cottages. You are going to Gods country I don't think any of them have wifi. Hope this helps. Superfly
