Mark Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 We are coming in on Friday night and plan on floating Sat. According to Cape Channel 12, not much rain overnight or expected until late Saturday night when Ike hits the Ozarks. Is that what you guys around Alton are hearing? Your help ASAP would be appreciated, really don't want to waste a 4 hour trip. Thanks, MArk
Brian Sloss Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Mark, The latest I have seen is today (fri.) 20%, tonight 30%, Saturday 50%, Sat. night 75% and Sunday will be wet. Bring some rain gear and maybe plan on pulling out Saturday night to miss the worst of it. As far the river goes, it is fine now and we aren't getting anything at the moment. I would think it will be fine for the weekend and start to muddy up Monday or Tuesday as the water from the northwest comes down into the river. Hope this helps, Ryan www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Mark Posted September 12, 2008 Author Posted September 12, 2008 Thanks, Ryan, I think we'll go for it. Just hope we can get out Sun. morning. Thanks again, Mark
Brian Sloss Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Mark, Hope you guys have a good trip. Be sure and give us a report when you get back. Ryan www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
FishinCricket Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 This news bodes well for your trip Mark, but not so much for mine, which would be a sunday trip... Good news is that I am not 4 hours away, I guess... Sure does look like a beautiful river though... Anyone wanna cast lots on whether or not Ike will move away from us? If luck is with me it will... But luck is never with me... cricket.c21.com
FishinCricket Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 It appears as though the forecast has changed slightly since yesterday, any new input on what Ike's gonna do? cricket.c21.com
snap Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 cad...crick..you were right!!! Just spoke with Delvis and Mark via cell and they caught plenty of bows...little to no other canoe traffic and zero jet boats!!! Great weather on the river but with the rain coming.....2-1 odds they get out of Oregon county!!! My only hope is that this river does not experience a 3rd major flood this season!!!
Brian Sloss Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 We got about 4 inches last night with very heavy wind gusts and big branches and a few trees down here in town. Probably a few trees in the river today after last night. Going to the river today to see if the access roads are blocked at all with any downed trees and see if it colored up. Don't know how much rain we got upstream, so I don't know yet if we will get a bigger rise tomorrow. Going up to Thomasville to check that out as well. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
FishinCricket Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I haven't been down to Bennett yet to check, but the USGS says it's up many feet and has quadrupled in discharge.. And the Niangua is supposedly even worse.. I am going to assume that the ElevenPoint is the same. The radar shows that it hit us all evenly so we will feel similar effects... Good luck today guys, I am headed to the private pond to fill my stock of fresh crappie.. Brian, the wife and I are definitely planning for next weekend. I am going to try the cottages that your website suggest so wish us luck. cricket.c21.com
Mark Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 I recommmend Dave and Rosemary Case have 3 nice cottages in Alton if you prefer to be close to restaurants and quick shops, phone number is 417-778-7782 or Sherri Hollis at the 2 summer cottage out off of AA near access for both Turner Mill and Whitten. All 5 houses have AC, SatTV, kitchens complete with dishes, pots and pans, clean and very reasonable prices. You can't go wrong with either person's places.
