Hello All,

I am new to this forum, but not to fly fishing. I have enjoyed the sport for over 30 years. I guess the thing I enjoy most is that you never stop learning abot fly fishing or tying. There is always a different approach to whatever challenge that is presented. I am always glad to share what I have learned through the years with anyone who asks.

I currently live in Murphysboro, Il and describe myself as a "displaced" trout fisherman. I eagerly look forward to frequent pilgramages in Missouri to practice my favorite passtime. I'm sure there are other such " displaced" individuals in my area. If so, please do not hesitate to contact me. Through the years I have discovered many such anglers right here in my area that I never knew trout fished.

By the way, for those of you who are into tying, I also operate a webiste that sells fly tying materials. You can see my site at www.heartlandflygear.com. I am especially pleased to offer mini and micro mini lead heads that are exteremeely popular for many local trout patterns. I carry sizes from 1/64th to 1/295th of an ounce.

Look forward to hearing from my fellow anglers,

Scott

My roots are in Southern Illinois. A little town called Valier. I did my first college stint at SIU Carbondale and lived in the area for a few years later.

One of our favorite fishing and camping spots was Lake Murphysboro. The bluegill and redear there were a blast on a flyrod espcially out of the Lilypads. Lots of fond memories with my two sons in our homemake boat there in the 70's. My two sons are both avid Trout anglers now .... tying and all.

I have fished all of the other lakes around SIU. Do they still stock the trout in Lake Egypt. I tried fishing it for trout several times but near the dam where they hung out it was so overpopulated with gills you could hardly get down to where they were.

Your website is nice and If I am ever that way again I will try to look you up.

Welcome to the site It is an interesting read and will hopefully return to a fishing site after the elections. It seems to have been hyjacked now by the political bloggers.. I am hopeful that it will return to its roots that made it popular later this winter.

Thom,

Good to hear from you. I do not know of trout in lake of egypt, but they do stock at Devil's Kitchen. This sounds like the area you described fishing deep water around the dam and such. Lake Murphysboro is just around the corner from me. I too have many fond memories fishing there as a youngster. It was close enough for us to ride a bike when we really had the itch to fish before we could drive.

Thanks for the warm welcome and best of fishing to you.
