Members Jim-to-fish Posted September 16, 2008 Members Posted September 16, 2008 I didn't know if anyone else had a problem with Hurricane Ike, but our club did. Sunday Morning about 1:30 we lost power at our cabin. Next thing I know wife is waking me to tell me what is going on. Tried to see down dock, but couldn't with all rain and wind coming. It looked scary. So decided to drive down and see. Came across guy from my club at about 3:00 and was told all the boats including mine were sunk down in water, but floating still in stall. Every boat with motor facing north was filled with water. Apparently Ike's tailwind came around and made big waves from north going south and flooded all boats on that side. They were going to move all boats on south side to north side Sat. evening as they thought storm was coming from south, but decided not to. Good thing they didn't. We all turned on bilge pump and let our boats start pumping water out. I had to try and hold back of boat up with hand so no more water went in from back of boat. Then when I could started using a bucket to get all the water out I could. Everybody ended up with no apparent problems as I was able to start boat to get on trailer. When I got home yesterday I took all my tackle down stair and dumped on floor to drw. Didn't was hooks rusting. Never seen anything like that here, Jim

Don Thanks Don, things so far seem to be okay as motor started after pumped all water out. No water got in gas. * boats were sunk. 6 from our club. I heard a few are taking boats into shop for checking out. If I had a new boat I would probably to, but just glad to get stuff back from shore that floated out of my boat. We were in Aunts Creek arm. Wind actually came down from north as tail of Ike blew south. That's what was crazy. We have pictures to never forget. I think in future if Hurricane is coming north we will all definitely pull boats out. Thanks for all concerned, Jim
