Guest Timbuktom Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I'm a friend of Phil Lilley and he has been helping me learn some of the basics of fly fishing on Taneycomo, especially up by the dam. Well, after buying the midges he recommended, I took off on a 4:00 PM quick trip to the dam to see if I have been learning anything. I was there on Saturday just before the big storm went through and caught a few nice 14-16 inch rainbow but lost all of my midges. Phil recommended a better hook setting technique so that I wouldn't break the line so quickly and also helped me on my tipper tying. Well, the first setting of a #14 zebra midge I had my first fish. All total, I landed 24 - 8 to 14 inch rainbow within two hours and traveled no more than 50 feet downstream from where I started. I put in at the #10 post of the walking trail just above the two little streams, where the log sits. I lost only one zebra the whole two plus hours I fished and had a ball! I don't know if the threatening weather scared the fishermen off the lake but I only saw about a half dozen people in either direction. Somebody missed out on some great fishing. Thanks, Phil!
