Zach Bearden
We might be coming over sometime soon and we're kind of wondering what to expect in the river. Is there alot of deep riffles and runs? Or is it more slow long pools? We're kind of looking for somewhere to go before I turn 16. I have seen your reports Brian and it looks like the river is fishing excellent. So I read somewhere somebody saw some stripers. I didn't really get to fish for them over here this year because they were continuously generating... (grr!) I kind of know what to expect out of them but what is an average striper over there? Are they even still in the river? Thanks everyone! "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Brian Wise
There is a lot of real good water Zach. There are slow long pools...but right now they have browns that are acting crazy in them so it works. There are some stripers in the river. They would be really hard to completely target unless you just camped on a pod that you came across. Some of them are pretty big though man. Haven't seen any on the stretch from ROLF to Blair in a while but they are below and above that stretch. Good luck man! Terry Beeson
Zach... Have you fished Dry Run Creek? NFW is a great stream, but you can fish it after you turn 16. Just want you to get the chance to fish DRC before then. Brian... Does it look like it's time to get ready for the run? And getting closer to the lake, could you not target stripers? Brian Wise
Terry, if you are talking about the Striper run then they usually "run" in late winter/early spring in good numbers. This 'is' a weird year and stripers have pretty much been caught below Dawt for a long time now. Targeting them in any numbers this time of year though would be pretty hard. If you are talking about the browns starting to stage, yes, they are starting. Brian My Youtube Channel
Terry Beeson
OK... after a second reading, I did sound confusing... Yeah... the BROWN run... But as for stripers, I guess I thought they tended to get close to the creeks just before fall hits. Zach Bearden
We won't be able to come over until Thankgiving time so thats after my Birthday. I'll get to buy a license this year~! (yuck!) Well, I guess I'll just come over and fish for the trout at about that time. It will be an experience, more than likely we will be tent camping. Last time I went camping it got down to about 25 that night and I wound up at the bottom of my sleeping bag in a tight ball. lol I am definitely looking forward to coming over and fishing. Brian Wise
Zach, By definition it is a spring creek, but flows and looks more like a freestone. Brian My Youtube Channel
Zach Bearden
okay, thats cool. I can actually kind of fish a mid sized freestone! As for spring creeks on the other hand, they kick my rear! "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team.
