Has anyone been doing any gigging on the Current River? Three buddies and myself are heading over to Van Buren on Friday night for two nights of gigging. Just wondering if anyone had any info. We will be putting in around Big Spring.

I haven't had the chance to get to the Current yet this year but as a native of VB I can tell you that anything close to the Big Spring has been gigged hard. You might look at going to Cataract Landing below Big Spring. I believe you turn on "Z" highway to get there. Its the road that will take you to the Big Spring Lodge Restaurant. you will think you have missed the turn off because this place is in the middle of nowhere. Yu will go until you run out of state maintained road and it turns to gravel. There is a killer hill you will have to go over and the road is not far on the other side of it. All told it is about 10-15 miles from the spring. Like I said its a little out of the way but there are usually more fish down there this time of year than there are around some of the more popular launch sites.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info Riverman. We put in at Waymeyer last year and didn't do very well. There were more boats than fish. Hopefully it will be a little better this year.

Well, we didn't do great, but we didn't get skunked either. We gigged about 9 on Friday night and 12 on Saturday. We put in at Big Springs both nights. Friday night we might as well have had the river to ourselves. Never saw another boat on the river. Saturday night we only saw two other boats on the river. Both nights were great nights to be out on the river.
