Members Bill Saenger Posted October 17, 2008 Members Posted October 17, 2008 I managed to get in a few hours of fishing on a couple of days during the past two weeks between Fall Creek and Monkey Island and one thing that struck me is that I did not see a single heron. Normally at this time of year there would be so many that they are almost a nuisance. Does anybody know where they have gone? Bill Saenger
Tightline Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 They probably got tired of all this running water and headed out. I think they like to wade also.
Dawgsquat Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Got this one's pic at Branson Landing. I've seen plenty lately up by the dam. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

loo10 Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Tastes just like Cormorant. A little bit fishy...like a puddle duck. Rich Looten Springfield, Missouri "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong."- John Gierach
twosets Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I have gone thru this math before, but I would be interested any reactions. I have seen a heron eat 3 trout in a row, lets say they eat 3 a day. There are at least 100 heron in upper tany(maybe 2x or 3x that many) 300 trout a day 2100 trout a week 109,200 trout a year maybe many more. Any Fly patterns featuring heron feathers? Don't forget about the bald eagles taking trout too, and they are all exempt from the length limit in the trophy area. I wonder if the trout follow the herons around like they do fishermen. HC
Dave Cook Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Those heron feathers look pretty on the birds but they make lousy flies. Dave Cook Missouri Trout Fishermen's Association - Kansas City
