vanven Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I will be down fishing Wednesday afternoon through Friday afternoon. I am hoping the draw down and the sporatic generation will lead to some quality wading times. I will be fishing at night so feel free to stop by and give me a shout. Black F-150 with the Catch and Release plates. I need to start planning these trips ahead of time. The drive down from KC isnt exactly super exciting and with the price of gas it would be nice to car pool occasionally. -Jerod
Leonard Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Jerod... watch your back... never know who may sneak up on you...LOL cant say for sure right now... but I think this weekend we could see some off water (for long periods of time) http://www.taneycomonights.com
mwfischer Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Do you guys expect a busy weekend (amount of fishermen, both wading and drifting)?
vanven Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 This may be one of the first extended and predictible periods of low flow. I am anticipating crowds and trying to plan my trip around them. -Jerod
timsfly Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Fishing was pretty good today, spent all of our time at outlet 1, 4 units going, #2 outlet was packed with humans. I got there about 8, and left at 11:30, caught maybe 20 trout, and two bluegill, only caught one brown, but there were a few around, only saw 2 that might have been over 20" most were small. All the rainbows we caught were nice, a few were around 17" most were 13-15" fish, a few were smaller. I was fishing with an old fart that comes in my shop alot, he had spent 3 days with his brother at taney a month or so back and neither had caught any throut in those 3 days, when I left, I think he had landed 6, and he was still there when I left, not near as many big fish as last year at this time, hope they are still comming, the water was warm, but all the trout we caught were in good shape, had a few jumpers. Lots of fish were being caught by the fisherman that were standing right in the chute at outlet 1, looked like red san juan worms were what they were using. Richard and I were using cream colored san juan worms with either a zebra midge or a larva lace scud in gray, used very small flies #18 mostly except for the san juans, they were tied on #10 and #12 scud hooks. vanven Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 Some day I will bump into you on the water Tim instead of behind the counter. I read an interesting article the other day on fishing droppers and it made a small reference to fishing a scud behind a sculpin streamer pattern during the daytime with no indicator. The heavier streamer should keep the sculpin near the bottom and moving. I may have to give this a try. -Jerod
mwfischer Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Thanks for the help building up to my trip this weekend, but this is going to be my first fall trip to Taneycomo. In the spring, (First week of March) when I usually come down, we have done ok spin fishing Lil Jakes and Cleos, does anybody still do OK with them this time of year? Thanks Mike

Snow Fly Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 VanVen: Not long ago I was fishing with a person who told me to use the Sculpin as the trail fly (#2) and scud/whatever (#1) as the lead which makes the sculpin look to be chasing the scud/whatever. Seemed to be working real well for him "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
