Fished Saturday 11/29. Started at Highbank just after the siren. Caught fish on a variety of patterns. Caught a nice 18-19" male rainbow on an olive mohair leech. Ended up taking fish on marabou midges (red, olive, and white) and peachy king egg patterns. Overall it was pretty slow and a bit crowded. Brought to hand somewhere between 12 and 15 in 3 or so hours of fishing at Highbank. Never did hone in on a hot pattern. Met-up with KSBass and his son. Then moved down to Zone 3 and caught a half dozen more using the peachy king egg pattern. Had to use the net once down there on a nice 19-20" female rainbow .... hooked her just upstream from the wooden bridge. After fishing Zone 3 we headed to the BSP river access .... zippo for me down there. We found the fish but couldn't get them to hit the leech or anything else we threw at them. It was getting cold, windy, and wet and we headed back to Kansas at around 4:30. PC

Thanks for the report. I was down Sat. myself. I didn't get there until 2:00 so I did not get much fishing in. Didn't even put on the waders!. I did catch 4 and missed 3 or 4 up by the spring at the first handicap access. I was drifting a black zebra midge. I was drifting it under a tri colored glow ball. No hits on the glow ball. I thought I saw your red truck up by the gauge house, maybe. I was fishing as fast as I could since I only had about 2 hours. The wife and I had to go to Truman lake for a trip so I went to Bennett on a whim. I had fun and the weather was OK so it was all good.

RC .... I didn't fish at all in Zone 1 on Saturday. It sounds like about the time you got there I was down at the BSP River Access getting shut-out. PC

Must of been slow if YOU didn't score on the river! Did you go upstream from the high bank at all?

Pat .... I stayed in the Highbank until we left for Zone 3. Didn't get any further upstream. It was slow .... nothing was consistent .... threw a lot of different patterns at them and couldn't find something that was hot. I didn't see anybody slaying them. Mike

Hey PC,

If you would have asked me, I would have told you what to use to slay them. ;) I was down Friday and I did pretty well early in the day but after lunch it slowed up quite a bit unless you were there for the hatch of BWO's. Later in the day it really slowed up. I caught fish, but nothing like I had in the morning. Total for the day I probably caught close to 30-35 fish.

We need to arrange a time for all of us to get together before the end of December.

Haven't noticed you on for awhile. What was the ticket on Friday? Any plans for a trip down in the near future?

Cricket its more of a technique than a particular fly. I gave Pat the lowdown in a PM. I don't like broadcasting how I fish and what I use too much anymore. Some friends of mine turned me on to some things and I told some people what I was doing and I think they took offense to me telling secrets of theirs. I think during the winter season its a little more critical that you keep some things more sacred so you don't train the fish too much. If everyone is doing it the fish will get burned out on it without fresh stocked fish. The fish that are in the stream all winter tend to get a little educated. I even find myself switching up flys even if I'm catching fish on a good fly so as not to educate them too much.

Take care,

Rich
