I am planning on trying to hit Maramec Springs several times once the catch and keep season begins, and I just have a couple of questions. I've fished here twice before, and each time fished all day and only caught one trout. Based on the number of people I see taking their limits in the first hour or so, I am clearly doing something wrong. I mainly spinfish, but I have a fly rod and will use it if it works better down there. I would just appreciate any advice on tips, baits, lures etc. Thanks a lot.

Catch & release is open now.Use light line, wear polorized sunglasses, learn to float your bait drag free, set the hook any time you feel or see tension.Sight fish looking for feeding fish, one's that are swimming from side to side opening their mouths feeding.San jaun worms, puff balls[eggs],and micro jigs, change lures and spots often going back to lures and spots often.Good luck. :D

Since you want to spin fish once the regular season opens in March, I would use dough bait on a jig hook floated below...a float. For floats I would suggest a adjustable one with a tooth pick in one end. They sell them at the park. Use 1 or 2 lb test flourocarbon. Use jig hooks 1/100th oz to 1/120oz.

tight lines

The only good line is a tight line

Misread the post...........Catch and keep, spin fish,I would start with a orange and white rubber worm, green rubber leg jig, white jig 1/100-1/8th.......followed by white or black rooster tail, small rapala minnow lures, rebel craw dad.........and if it gets tough  Yellow or pink power bait, velveeta or colby longhorn cheese and of course the ole original, never failing, most used bait ever......MR.NIGHTCRAWLER.Remember...have patience.....let kid's be kid's.....share your secret on good day's.....and thank god you can fish.

The best way to learn is to go now; don't wait for the regular season to open. There are lots of fish in there for catch and release, and fewer fishermen.
