Members hambone80 Posted January 7, 2009 Members Posted January 7, 2009 In all honesty you can't go wrong with a lot of the companies out there. Like Hoyt, Darton, Martin, PSE, Matthews, and Bowtech. As you know these are just some of the bow manufactures out there. Hands down best technology and shootability is a Bowtech bow, but their top of the line bows are bank busters. However, they have the Sniper on the line up which is a great bow and more affordable than thier flagship models. Personally, I shoot a Diamond bow which is made by Bowtech and I really like it. The model I have is "The Rock" and it's short (which I like for treestand hunting) and it's also very affordable compared to a lot of other bows. Oh yeah the IBO speeds are good to. I laugh when some guy who has the latest "hype" bow with all the bells and whistles gets out shot by me and my "lower-end" bow. Just remember that all the technology in the world won't make you a good shooter. Practice and good form is the key to success. I was looking at a Ross bow myself because they are cool looking and were made in Grandview MO, but I guess Andy Ross went under. In my book anything in the Bowtech line up (Diamond, Ross, Bowtech) are the best of the best.
ekl-stl Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I have an original Ross 301 and absolutely love it. My brother has the Cardiac and I can see some improvements including arrow speed. I too hunted with a Pearson recurve for several years and have never looked back once I made the change.
Members joefish Posted February 2, 2009 Members Posted February 2, 2009 I shoot the The Truth by bear/primos. Its quiet and smooth and a good deal for a little less money. I have also shot mathews bows and that is a great bow also. I shot a recurve for years and bought a compound to hunt elk with for the xtra "umph. To justify the price ive been hunting whitetails with it, but Im still thinking of going back to the recurve just cause thats the way i like to hunt,. Compounds are nice though, wish i could afford a new one every year. Probing the depths, driving lunkers from their homes!

Made me some 6 feather flu-flu's tipped with 38 special brass (cheaper than blunts and work just a good) for rabbits and stuff like that. I enjoy the traditional archery I make my owne arrows, strings, fletchings out of turkey feathers and a friend of mine makes the bowes.
Members hendernt Posted April 11, 2009 Members Posted April 11, 2009 I shoot a Darton trailboss set at about 58# it isnt a popular bow but it is quiet and I have taken 1 deer w/ it at about 55yds and had a clean blow through of both lungs (my arrow hit a cedar tree about 5 yds past the deerwhich is what stopped it). I got it cheap which is why I shoot it. I have a friend who swears by PSE bows and I have shot his bow and it is fast and quiet. I have also shot matthews bows and Parker bows both of which are nice to shoot. My wife shoots a browning which is a nice quiet bow as well. In todays day and age almost any bow that fits you ad is quiet is a good bow to hunt with. As I said I got mine because it was right at $200 for the full set up. I also an older PSE (about 10 yrs old) but havent had the chance to shoot it yet and also a pearsons that is about 5 yrs old but havent shot it yet either (got them because i got both full set ups for 150). I am thinking of making 1 a bow fishing bow.

I purchased it because it was super fast at the time (310) and it simply looked awesome. This fall I am finally going to get a new set of arrows and replace my wiskerbiscuit rest. Angler At Law
