Zach Bearden Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Okay, so this is a small competition between some of us that we have every year. We have it in the Gravel Parking lot at the dam. Sign up starts at 8:00 A.M. on Sunday the 28th. The cost is 5$ per each fly that you want. That 5$ will buy you a fly and food (chili and such). The fly is a surprise so be ready for anything! I'm pretty sure that this is a Catch & Release Competition and we go on the honors system. If you decide to lie then we let it cook in your head. The Categories are First Fish, Biggest Fish, and Most Fish. We have plaques (spell check?) for the winners of these categories. I'm not too sure what time this will last until this year. Last year I believe it was 2:00 P.M. because that was when they were supposed to begin generating. You can fish anywhere on the river just be sure that you are back in time for the prizes. If you have any other questions feel free to message me or put them on this thread. I will be checking as regularly as I possibly can to see if there are any new replies. DaddyO Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Zach, Thanks for posting the info for the One Fly event. It was good to see you again and meet your Mom and Girlfriend. I also met Hopper (Greg). He was the guy that won the Biggest Fish award. It took me a little while to figure out how to best present the One Fly. When I finally figured it out and found the fish I was able to catch 10 within a couple of hours. All in all, it was a good day. Thanks for the sample flies, also. Danimal Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 So what was the fly? Inquiring minds want to know. Dan-o RELEASE THOSE BROWNIES!!
Zach Bearden Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Just a little fly that I use sometimes. Its a slight relative to a fly called a ------ ---. I use them in white, black, and gray. Really nice little fly. It kinda hard to explain the fly. "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. Hopper Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Had a good time at the one fly event, it ended a long weekend of fishing started at meremac springs on Fri. caught dozen fish all in the riffles using soft hackle, first time there not a very big area 1/2 mile of water inside park, then Taney on Sat. caught pretty much everything on san juan worm with grey scud dropper, one nice fish 18" range, about 11:30 got blown out of the water from the storm that came through so headed back to tulsa. One fly event started out kind of slow only 4 fish before lunch and almost quit but got my second wind and headed back to the pool below the gravel parking area and success my sixth fish was a nice 15 1/2" bow and caught two more before the 2:00 time limit. Met some nice people at the event and the chilli was great, will definately do it next year. The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing.
The Caddis Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Need some more details on this, who won what? details of the fly, nothing comes up when you google desert rat
DaddyO Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Hopper won the Biggest Fish at 15 1/2 inches. Some other guy won first fish and most fish at 20. I'll try to post a picture of Zach's fly unless he beats me to it. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

The Caddis Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Those fly's don't look alike? Did they give you some materials and tell you to tie your own? Upon reflection, not a bad idea for a tourney, meet up at 7am, hand out materials, tie up for an hour, then go fish.
