tippet7 Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I was in the water at 1120 with zero units running. started off below #2 throwing a streamer (pine sqrl/saddle hackle) landed a couple, but was getting hit on almost every cast. moved down to rebar and had a couple of more hookups. switched to a trout crack and had a couple of really nice fish on, but i was using 7x tippet and got broke off 3 times. switched to a scud i tied up, kind of a flattened out scud tied on a #14 hook and the fish we all over this fly. i was fishing the rebar hole itself, casting up and letting the fly sink into the hole, just the seam of the current. i counted 52 fish landed and many more "long distance releases" i landed a couple of browns, the largest landed was about 18 or so. i did have one on that went about 22 or 23 (one the trout crack victims) i left the water around 315 with about 60 fish or so landed. lots of silver bullets in the bunch. but it beat staying home and watching the lifetime network with mama!! it did seem that almost everyone was catching fish yesterday. i only saw one larger fish taken, that was in the shallow run just up from the rebar hole. that fish was probably around 24 inch bow. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Members mo_bowhunter Posted December 26, 2008 Members Posted December 26, 2008 Sounds like a pretty darn good day on the water if you ask me - thanks for the report!
Fishhand Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Hey tippet7, I was in the same area as you yesterday and had a similar day. Those fish definitely had their feedbags on.... I used an 18 copper midge at the lower end of rebar and moved up to above rebar and used a 20 tan scud under a size 8 sinker. It was a great day on the water. Much different than earlier this year when the D.O. was low. I also went down to Rocking Chair but didn't fish it....it's really changed since the high water this spring. The riffle that used to be there is now gone. Good fishin all.
Members mo_bowhunter Posted December 27, 2008 Members Posted December 27, 2008 I am wondering if anyone was drift fishing or hitting those slack water spots from a boat - and how they did the last week or so?
tippet7 Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 i did not see any boats out there at all. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Members mo_bowhunter Posted December 27, 2008 Members Posted December 27, 2008 Very interesting - this is my first year making a trip down to Taney, so I will be a novice. But does the boat traffic slow down during the Jan - Feb months - I thought those were the two best months to fish at Taney!
Greg Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I'm jealous. Wish I could have come down that day. I did think about it but just couldn't with family obligations. Tightline Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Mo-bow,my bro-in-law and me were down yesterday in his boat.We figured the dam would be really crowded and it had been awhile since we had done any spin fishing. We went all the way to lookout and slowly fished back. The fishing was just the opposite of what we expected,we did much better from Fall creek down to Lilleys than in the trophy area.We ended up with 42 nice rainbows and 3 browns. All on jigs right in the middle of the channel. I hadn't caught a Brown in a long time, so I guess there's a few in there. Tippet, great day,I had one like that a couple of weeks ago.
Members tgard27 Posted December 27, 2008 Members Posted December 27, 2008 I was out on the water as well on the 25th. I got out there at about 9:45 and had a heck of a day as well. The first fish was my biggest, about a 23-24 inch male rainbow that was spewing. I caught most of my trout on an amber colored # 14 scud with a copper rib. I saw one guy catch a brown, nothing of signifigant size. I caught around twenty five on scuds and moved up stream aways and caught about 10 on a #12 prince nymph. I also caught alot of silver bullets, but I did catch one rainbow with par markings on it. Cool as heck to catch our next generation of fish.
