Members LWD Posted December 27, 2008 Members Posted December 27, 2008 A friend at work loaned me an Evanescence cd and I immediately fell in love with Amy Lee. She is an incredibly powerful singer, she can go from a beautiful melody in one breath and then belt it out like you wouldn't believe. I ended up with a few of their cds, and for a couple of months I couldn't get enough of her. I got the DVD of their concert in Paris and it was great to just kick back for a while and enjoy the concert in my own home. I would love to see her live in concert. She designs a lot of her own clothes and styles, which by the way is pretty much gothic, and refuses to use sex for selling her popularity. She settled in Little Rock and that is where Evanescence was formed. Are there any other Amy Lee fans out there?

She went to Pulaski Academy high school about the same time that I was at another LR high school. She's always been a heck of a singer, though I'm not a big Evanescence fan. Very down to earth girl and stays in touch with her friends. Now if she would team up with Allison Kraus for a while, I'd buy that.
drew03cmc Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 She is amazing, and if you listen to their music, some of it has a Faith-based feel to the lyrics. I LOVE that! Andy
flytyer57 Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 She is amazing, and if you listen to their music, some of it has a Faith-based feel to the lyrics. I LOVE that! Faith based? Their music is based more on the dark side of life. With songs like " My Immortal"---"Going Under"--- "Lithium"---"Weight of the World"---"Lose Control"---"All That I'm Living For"---"Taking Over Me"---"My Last Breath"... Here's the lyrics to the song "Tourniquet" which is not about god, but about Suicide. Tourniquet EVANESCENCE I tried to kill the pain but only brought more so much more I lay dying and I'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal I'm dying, praying, bleeding and screaming am I too lost to be saved am I too lost? my God my tourniquet return to me salvation my God my tourniquet return to me salvation do you remember me lost for so long will you be on the other side or will you forget me I'm dying, praying, bleeding and screaming am I too lost to be saved am I too lost? my God my tourniquet return to me salvation my God my tourniquet return to me salvation I want to die!!! my God my tourniquet return to me salvation my God my tourniquet return to me salvation my wounds cry for the grave my soul cries for deliverance will I be denied Christ tourniquet my suicide There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Outside Bend Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 From what I've listened, she seems to have a lot of talent, although it's not a music genre I can really get into. And she seems a lot more genuine than a lot of female role models out there. The song discusses suicide, but lots of songs do. I don't think it encourages or condones the act. For starters, it wouldn't make sense to name a song condoning suicide after a life saving device (Tourniquet). Secondly, the phrase "my God my tourniquet," indicates to me God is what's keeping her from going through with suicide, that she's leaning on God, asking him for help through her struggle. To me, there's nothing really dark or sinister about that. <{{{><
Buzz Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 I really like Amy Lee and Evanescence. I especially like the re-release of the Seether song "Broken" that she did with the band. I haven't heard any of her solo stuff since she left Evanescence but, I'm sure it will be good. Evanescence now has a former "American Idol" singer Carly Smithson ( I think is her last name), I have yet to hear any of thier new stuf. Still waiting. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

It is about someone who has attempted suicide "I tried to kill the pain, but only brought more, so much more, I lay dying, and I'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal." The lines "my wounds cry for the grave, my soul cries for deliverance," is obviously about suffering so much mental pain and anguish that she feels suicidal but is calling out for help. The "Tourniqet" is to stop the bleeding and that pain. Taking the words from the song "Sweet Sacrifice" (I dream in darkness I sleep to die, Erase the silence, Erase my life, Our burning ashes Blacken the day, A world of nothingness, Blow me away.) Surely this cannot be "faith based" but more again about the dark side of life. This is again about the dark inner feelings of pain and suffering in someones mind. From the song "Lithium" we have, " I can't hold on to me, Wonder what's wrong with me. Lithium, don't want to lock me up inside. Lithium, don't want to forget how it feels without... Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow." Lithum is not about any "faith based" anything. It's a drug used to treat bi-polarism and other mental disorders. Almost every song Evanescense does has some type of reference to someone either dying, wanting to die, feeling the pain of losing someone, ("My Immortal") feeling lost in life, etc. To me, that is not "faith based." There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

To me, there's nothing really dark or sinister about that. Copied dfrom an interview with "Spin" magazine: Evanescence took about two years off. Why return now? For a long time I didn't know what I wanted to do. I really love scoring film and that was definitely where my head was. I took a few stabs at doing that, but then I started writing more songs. I had such a good time in the studio with Will "Science" Hunt recording "Sally's Song" -- it was a cool, free, creative space. So we thought, "Why don't we just try writing an original song?" He has a studio in Forth Worth, TX, and we spent two days down there writing and a new song came out that was so different -- it was dark and inspiring. It was a groove that I hadn't found in a long time. So we spent all of last year writing like crazy and somewhere halfway through I said, "You know, I think we're writing an Evanescence album." Is there a lyrical theme? I write about what I'm going through at the time. There are moments of, "Hey, I'm over it and I'm good" and others of fun sarcasm like, "Hey, everything's not the most dramatic thing in the world." But it gets really, really, really deep in places, too. That's probably why it's been really hard to pick an album title. [Laughs] But lyrically, it's a more real version of myself. I'm saying things that I would've been afraid to say before. I'm more confident and more comfortable. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
flytyer57 Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Copied from "Wikipedia." Evanescence was originally promoted in Christian stores. Later, the band made it clear they did not want to be considered part of the Christian rock genre.[62] Terry Hemmings, CEO of Christian music distributor Provident, expressed puzzlement at the band's about-face, saying "They clearly understood the album would be sold in these [Christian music] channels."[63] After many Christian stores began to remove the band's music from their shelves, Wind-up Records chairman Alan Meltzer then issued a press release in April 2003 requesting formally that they do this.[64] In 2006, Amy Lee told Billboard that she had opposed being identified as a "Christian band" from the beginning.[65] There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
