Members petertherock Posted March 26, 2006 Members Posted March 26, 2006 Hey Hawg Hunter, It's petertherock!. Slammin man! Glad to hear you had some action around the dam area. That's really my home water, between Point #5 and the dam. It's good info to know as I will be bringing four guys down to the Rock next Sunday. It's the first time all four have been to Table Rock and I really would rather not have to run all the way up the James to Cape Fair or out to Shell Knob. Long Creek is not a bad run for me though. Say check out my post, posted about a week ago title something like Just Beyond Point 5 I included a map as an attachment. It's probably on page #2 by now. Since your tournament is almost over, tell me later if you covered this area and how well you did! I could of guessed you caught your fish on that jerk bait and a grub. That's all I use in that area at this time of the year. One exception, I use a 1/8 oz. jighead with a Bass Pro Triple Ripple Tail grub in white. I don't generally have to use any other color, and I slam the fish, especially the smallmouth at this time of the year. I like your choice of jerkbait and color. Sometimes I find that the Clown - color works best on bright sunny days, and the color you threw I use on overcast days. Stick to those main and secondary points. Since I'm comin' next week I would appreciate your heads up on that area, it's where my boat dock is! We will probably make the run to Shell Knob, Baxter or Lampe though one day for crappie, and the James, Kings, or Long for whites. Thanks for the info, good fishing! petertherock
Members 1HawgHunter Posted March 26, 2006 Members Posted March 26, 2006 petertherock, Just got back from the tourney meeting. Boat 77 and take off is at 6:00 AM. I have to make a run from Indian Point to Kimberling at about 4:45 AM. Not looking foward to that run, epecially at 35 miles per hour. I heard the locals use 3/4 oz football jigs and grubs for the smallmouth. Sounds way too heavy to me. What do you think?
Members petertherock Posted March 26, 2006 Members Posted March 26, 2006 Right On! I was a local for quite a few years before I moved away. I still have a family boat slip there and our family boat. Listen, man for more consistant numbers of fish in a 3.5 to 5lb. range, you gotta get small. Don't let all the locals fool you either, sometimes the word out on the street is actually a smokescreen for what they're really doing. The guys on this site, Phil Lilley, Bill Babler, Don House and SKMO, I believe can be trusted. Same old story though, when you find a pattern that consistantly scores you a boat load of fish stick to it, and that's no different on the Rock! petertherock P.S. When the tournament is over, let us know how you did and, where you did it and what pattern you used. The Rock is big enough, and the fish are plentiful, that sharing this information won't wipe you out for your next tournament. This is coming from a ex-tournament fishing officiando!
Members 1HawgHunter Posted March 27, 2006 Members Posted March 27, 2006 Hi guys, Well the tourney did not turn out too well for me. Being from northern Minnesota I am struggling with the rock yet. Mt co-angler caught a 5.14 large mouth in front of my cabin at Artilla Cove Resort. He caught it on a 1/4 oz jig and a watermelon hula grub. There were alot of guys who blanked or only caught one fish. Oh well that's fishing. Still have 2-3' of ice on the lakes back home. Was a fun trip and time on the water. Will keep this page book marked and chat with you all. Am here until Thursday.
roy_eros Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 Hey hawghunter, Cant believe you are giving away my secrets. Didnt know you were on this sight. Thats funny what are the odds we would be paired together. Remember thats why they call it fishing and not catching. Jonathan a.k.a. Roy
Members 1HawgHunter Posted March 27, 2006 Members Posted March 27, 2006 Jonathan A.K.A. Roy No way. It is a small world indeed. It was a pleasure fishing with you today. Glad you were able to pull a good fish, which I am sure helps with the points. Too bad I couldn't hold up my end. I am going to monitor this site when I get home. Lets keep in touch and I share some NORTHERN fishing stories.
