Got invited to go on a spring Turkey hunt. Looking for a 12ga. pump. Any resourses out there?

Nothing fancy or expensive. Just an entry level gun.

Blessings!

Remington 870 is what I would recommend. You can get a turkey express with an 18 inch barrell. Later if you want to hunt other birds all you have to do is get a longer barrell not another gun.

I'll second that...

I'll put out a third on that. I have a 870 with a black synthetic stock that is a great gun. they run about 300 bucks I think now. Watch for basspro's spring hunting classic and they might have a sale on them

Another great gun is a mossberg 500 comes with a good turkey choke and has put many birds on the ground.

Just be ready no matter which pump you get, when you fire that sucker to pattern it, 3" 12 gauge turkey loads in a relatively light pump gun=ouch!

I use what's called a "sissy bag" behind the recoil pad in front of my shoulder. ->Sissy Bag<-

The Caldwell Lead Sled does the same thing, but much more expensive.

Thanks! I found an 870 at a pawn shop....got an acceptable deal on it. Shot a couple of rounds thru it and YES....I'm going to get a recoil pad. Been 30 years since I shot my dads old Western Field 12ga.....so the 870 gave me good pop to the shoulder!

Looking forward to the season!

I've got an old Western Field semi. It's essentially a Remington 1100. Boy, I love that gun. I've used it on turkey, ducks, geese, clays, etc. and it's just a sweet shooter. It's as heavy as a cinder block, but I love it. My Father-in-Law passed it on to me several years ago, and I believe he got it from Montgomery Ward decades ago.

A bit irrelevant to the topic, I know, but you mentioned your dad's old W.F. and it got me to thinking about it...oh, well. Back to work.

 Pump 3 1/2" #4s and #5s through it duck hunting - three shots at a time, ducks coming in every half hour for 6 hours... THAT'll put a knot on your shoulder...

Did you pattern it at 40 yards? How was it? Turkey choke is a good idea on any gun you're going to go after gobblers with.
