timsfly Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Great fishing all week at the park, the nice weather really made it nice, good caddis hatches on sat and sunday really made for some good dry fly fishing, and the fish we caught on griffiths gnats I mean we caught dozens of nice rainbows this week on griffiths gnats and blue wing olives, it was one of the better weekends of the season so far for dry fly fishing. I did have to fish 7X anytime I was fishing dries, but when fishing nymphs I use 6X fluorocarbon and did just fine, and when fishing bigger streamers I did use some 5X and even some 4X on friday. With the melting snow the water has come up a bit, but it has reamained very clear and has only come up few inches so far. Pheasant tails, copper johns, sow bugs, small furbugs, burlaps, zebra midges and small brassies caught fish all weekend, micro eggs did very well also. Alot of people were having luck on the chamois worm, tread jigs in white, and olive grubs, along with oregon cheese, apricot surpreme and lt. roe egg patterns. I saw a few people fishing spinners didn't see anybody catching any, but the fish were chasing them. I did see a few fellows fishing small spoons with a bit of feather tied to them, and they were catching a lot of fish in the deeper runs. They were single hook spoons Next week is it, for the C&R season, I want to apologize for anybody I might have told it was the 16th, I had called the hatchery a few times and they had told me the 16th once and once told me the second weekend, I took that as the 16th, but I was wrong, so sorry if anybody was thinking of comming down that weekend. Anyway should be a good weekend to close it down, the water is in great shape, still lots of eagles around and the fish are still very active, come down and enjoy the last one, good luck where ever you may fish.
