binman Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Tim thanks for the great info I myself had no idea about most of this and it's always great to get a bigger crowd of people just last year I took and introduced 3 new faces and names to the ultimate experience of trout fishing at roaring river and this year I have 5 more going and the 3 from last season.I myself just can't wait until my children are a little older so they can go with me down there and have their first experience such as I had.To me and many others Roaring river is magical place full of fun and adventure and the MDC,volunteers and people like us make it as beautiful as it was my first trip in 89 and I can say I/we are all very appreciative for the hard work everyone has done so once again have a safe trip and introduce a child to the outdoors it will truly be a experience they will not forget.Good fishing to all. Whodat Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 This will 30 plus years in a row for me. Can't wait, sounds like maybe some nice weather
timsfly Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 they finished dredging in the river this morning. They dredgin will continue up above the river in the dry creek bed above the hatchery, to try to keep the gravel from filling up the river so fast during the next few floods we are bound to get Hey Tim- I thought I would send you a couple of pictures in case you want to post them. MDC crews are currently working on the first hole—the last place in the stream for gravel and silt removal—they should be done with it today and will move up to Roaring River Hollow to clean that area out so to keep more gravel form moving into the river. That work may not be finished before Mar 1 but will not affect water conditions or fishing. The other picture is of Chris Landstad stocking some nice lunkers- 5lb plus for opening day. Let me know if you have any questions. Jerry Dean Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop

Zack Hoyt Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Thanks Tim. It hit me when I thought about the park being closed until the 1st. Getting cabin fever and everywhere has a ton of water. I dont know that I have ever been below the Dam. I have heard people talk about it, but never thought to look into it more. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
timsfly Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Well you have to go further than the old dam to get below the park. There is about a mile of water below the dam that is closed all winter. The fishing starts at the conservation area, about a mile or so past the nature center, you can park in the conservation area and walk down to the river and fish downstream, all year long. Just need your trout stamp and fishing permit. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
