Members puffydisc Posted February 23, 2009 Members Posted February 23, 2009 it will be my first time fishing Montauk on opening day, so i was wondering what lures/flies produce the most fish on opening day. Thanks and good luck out there on Sunday!
jjtroutbum Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I will probably throw a Y2k under an indicator first thing in the morning. ekl-stl Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Anything bright, or white and heavy to get down to the fish fast.. What do you normally use at Montauk..
DoveTail Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Don't forget to try some San Juan worms, sowbugs and scuds. All are great this time of the year. Micro jigs as listed above, white works great, if the water is stained bright colors are good also. Wooly buggers seem to produce.
3wt Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I think a bare hook will do the trick on openning day. Just don't go expecting a real trout fishing experience. It'll be a circus, and there will be a ton of fish, and if you're into social fishing it might be fun - when (not if) somebody crowds and annoys the heck out of you, let it go and try to just enjoy. But go back on a weekday later on in the season for a more real fly fishing trip. And I would never step foot in the water without a few olive mohair leeches in my box.
Ill Trout Bum Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Ditto on the olive mohair leeches. Scott
