Whack'emGood Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Yep, we're all fishing for our own satisfaction - and how that works is up to the individual. I don't care about trout fishing, myself, but that's because I'm not really into it. Those guys who trout fish below the Dam with their tippets and little scud flies, well, I don't understand just what they're doing but I know it's a real challenge to catch big trout that way and it takes a lot of skill. More power to 'em - I'll never knock anybody else's hobby, and certainly never knock anybody's choice to master the specialized skills needed to target and consistently catch just one species. Others, like myself, enjoy catching them all and while I'll probably never have the skills to win any bass tournaments, that's a valid choice too - 'cause I'm having lots of fun out there and we enjoy the panfish filets. Well said. "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)

focused fishing Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Just curious what is considered an average SM? And what is the lake record. Good question, we catch a bunch of small fish in the spring 6" - 12" on grubs, the average brownie is probably around 13" - 14" year round with plenty of 15"+ fish to keep it interesting. Not sure on the lake record, I know of at least 10 over 6 lbs. caught in the last 3 - 4 years with a couple over 6.5. I'm convinced the next state record will come out of TR and it will be pushing 8 lbs, saw one up shallow "crusin" last year during the spawn that I would estimate at 7.5 lbs, thought it was a carp at first, of course everything looks bigger in the water. Before anyone asks I'm not telling where it was....... Members Slabhunter Posted February 27, 2009 Author Members Posted February 27, 2009 I hope to see everyone on the water. We are fixen to leave for the Rock now. A 4hr drive isn't too bad. We will be in a older green ranger boat. If you see us don't be afraid to stop and say hey. It would be nice to put some faces with these messages.

Once the weather is warm, I try to be at my third or fourth stop by the time the sun rises. You are right that being on the lake at the rise is magical.
