Chief Grey Bear Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Buzz and I took a trip on Indian today and did it ever turn out to be a beautiful day. We had a thunderstorm roll through this moring with very high winds, some gusting to 60mph according to the news. We decided to brave it anyway. We hit the water about 9:30. It was really slow for us today. We did manage to get one here and there. I think I ended up with 9 or 10 brownies and Buzz had about as many. The Goggle-eye were really turned on today though. We hit one hole, that I bet if we were still there at this moment, would still be producing. We fished it for at least a half an hour and either caught a fish or had a bite. It was amazing. We got to talking about how much fun it would have been on a flyrod. All of them were really nice and fat. We didn't catch any big fish today but we did see two that didn't look to have any problem tipping the scale at 3lb. We saw a few more that would hit the 1.5 to 2lb mark. The water was so clear we were on or going over them before we could even think about it. None of them were hanging where you thought they would be. We finally had to call it a day and pass up the last almost mile of water today. We hated to do that but, we really had to get going. Here are some pics. DD'sMC Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Nice pictures. Happy you got out and enjoyed such a beautiful day. Can't wait to get over there. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.
Members c & r Posted March 9, 2009 Members Posted March 9, 2009 Nice pictures. Happy you got out and enjoyed such a beautiful day. Can't wait to get over there. Chief, Do you know if that log jam is still on Indian up above the park at Lanagan? Thanks, Bobby
Chief Grey Bear Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 Thanks MC, we can't wait either! C & R - We were not in that area, so I can't say. We did some scouting in that area earlier this year and didn't see anything but, we didn't check the whole section either. Buzz Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 The Goggle-eye were really turned on today though. We hit one hole, that I bet if we were still there at this moment, would still be producing. All of them were really nice and fat. I know one thing for certain I will bring my fly rod next time we fish Indian and a couple of the other streams that we fished last year. Indian has some great runs with deep water beside shallower water. Fish in both. I couldn't believe some of the deep holes we floated over. Some had to be well over ten feet deep. Beautiful creek and I'm looking forward to the next float. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
DD'sMC Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Quick question...were you using a grub? We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.
Andy & JoAnne Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 You arent kidding the water was clear. Thanks for sharing
Buzz Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Quick question...were you using a grub? I never did throw any grubs on this float. I thought about it a couple of times, but I just kept chunking the YUM 2 1/2" Crawdad and the 3" YUM Woolly Hawgtail. I wish I had brought my ultralight spinning rod so I could have fished with grubs and Rebel Crawdads also. I won't make that mistake again. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Chief Grey Bear Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Ditto what Buzz said. I had some crankbaits with me and should have tried them in some of the deeper water. I am not sure how good I would have done though. We caught a lot of the fish in shallow water. The one I am holding came from water not much more than knee deep. I think it was the same for the one Buzz has. DD'sMC Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 My bait of choice for creek and stream smallies has always been either a 2" or 3" inch Powerbait pumpkinseed grub, or a 3" olive bitsy tube. Thanks for the info fellas. C'mon April! We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.
