creek wader Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 siusaluki, for the 1st 3 yrs. of fishing 6 different access pts. I never saw anyone fishing, only a few locals at the low water crossings, they were swimming. Then on 4th of July Saturday, last yr. I fished under the Hwy P bridge, near Freeburg. There I saw 3 or 4 groups of people near the parking area, some were fishing. The other day I fished at the Dr. Bernard Bruns Access, because I was short on daylight. There I saw several couples of people fishing or just messing around. Of course it was an 80* day in March. Other than that, nobody. And those few times, I just waded away from them. At my "secret" access, I've seen no one else, fishing, ever. fishinwrench, Yes I've fished the Saline Creek, several times and caught smallies, lg mouth, and Kentuckys. I've only been there once in the last couple of yrs. It was about this time of yr. The stream was way up, but fairly clear. I didn't catch anything. But, I did notice a huge population of large crayfish. The brown ones with the 2 black stripes. So, the fish there ought to be eating well. I didn't notice any improvements, then. I've been wanting to get back there and will try later this yr. mrbuzib1, post me if you come back, I'll point you in the right direction to my "secret" access. lol KCRIVERRAT, those pics were last yr. I just love my camera phone. Here's a few more, wader
Buzz Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 You got it man. If I do get up there I will let you know. Thanks again. Buzz If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Members yakfisher Posted March 31, 2009 Members Posted March 31, 2009 It is along way from where I'm at, but I've been meaning to take some time and backtrack to some of the places I lived as a kid. One of them was Jeff City. I'd also like to fish Binder lake again. We have one stream like that down here that we fished last year. It was full of smallmouth. I want to get on it again before the bottom falls out of it . Last year, even after all of the rain it was only 12" deep in spots, but it had some nice runs and a few deeper holes. It's on my short list for this spring. Thank s again for the report. Buzz Buzz, I was in Jeff City a couple of weeks ago and visited Binder Lake. Didn't fish any, was just sightseeing but it looks like a decent lake to fish, is it? yakfisher
Members ladykiller Posted April 22, 2009 Members Posted April 22, 2009 yak, I live here in Jeff City and you need to bring a boat to fish it effectively. Pretty good bass lake and catfishing. A lot of crappie, but I haven't caught one out of there over 7 inches in about 10 years. Something's got the crappie stunted. Kyle
Buzz Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Buzz, I was in Jeff City a couple of weeks ago and visited Binder Lake. I haven't fished it since I was a kid but, had good luck fishing from the bank throwing spinner baits after dark. We caught several nice bass. Most were about 15", but for a 7 Th grader they were the biggest and most I had ever caught. I went with a friend and his dad. I've wanted to get back there but haven't been able to. I hope the lake is still as good as it was. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
