Tightline Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Brownieman the bunch that I go with (Slider and the guys) usually don't start going to Warsaw till around the first of May,after all our local fishing is starting to play out a little. I was curious about the water level so I looked up the real-time water data for Warsaw and it is really low( 22 ft. ) and they aren't running hardly any water. Infact alot of the streams in that area are running about 1/3 of cfs that they should be for March. Even the ole James river is running about 1/2 what it should. We need some rain!!!!
brownieman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Don't sound good buddy, I agree generally the last of april into the 1st of may is when they start getting it good...seems like when the water temp hits about 60, 62 is the time. Just curious, do you know George, Charles, Chuck...any of those guys ?...they are there almost every weekend on the east side, all sleep in their trucks in the parking lot. That's where I see slider some if I'm not mistaken...if sliders who I'm thinkin of he likes slinging spoons for birds...don't we all that go there, lol Maybe we'll get some rain and they'll run some water...makes all the difference in the world. Thanks for the info My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
Tightline Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Bm,I don't know very many by name but I am sure we have fished beside and talked to the guys you mentioned. I have never seen slider throw a spoon so you must be thinking of someone else,we are all kinda hard core jig fishers but we will throw some sticks if the hybrids are in there thick. I love fishing up there, can't wait till it gets going good.
soggyfeet Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I was done there on Sunday for the opening day of snagging. I didnt report because there wasnt anything to report. Went down below 65 bridge and snagged half the day and caught nothing but stumps and rocks. After lunch went up into the slack water(it was all slack water they werent running anything) by the ramp and it was packed but nobody was catching very much. Saw a pair of guys fishing with seven poles. Is that legal we were haveing a debate in our boat about it? Didnt say anything or ask cause nobody was doing anygood. Saw those guys empty their live well and looked like 4 or 5 keeper crappie. To catch anything you had to have live bait(which we didnt) the fish are just too lathargic right now I guess. Was hopeing to get into some eyes but no luck. Did see some fish surfacing but couldnt tell what they were we were guessing they were those dang ole gar. Anyways give it a few weeks or wait till they are running some water. Im thinking maybe tomorrow if a person can find a real sunny bank with some cover he might do pretty well. Even if no fish are caught its better than work. Brian
Members spin fisherx Posted March 17, 2009 Members Posted March 17, 2009 We have been down a couple of times the last 10 days. One evening we caught 4 eyes all keepers 3 males and 1 female about 4 pounds. Most on low current on no current. On the west bank you just find a place you can minimize the snags. Usually get the eyes about half way in and the whites and hybrids farther out but not always. We have also been catching a few med sized hybrids mixed with a few whites. The largest have been 4-5 pounds but I have seen some 10 to 12 pounders. Went down in the boat last Friday evening and had 4 eyes with about 12-15 whites all on grubs. Just have to stay at it. Figure out something that works for you and stay with it. I like a 1/8 oz white grub with chartruese tail but will change to black at dusk. Good luck

Members spin fisherx Posted March 20, 2009 Members Posted March 20, 2009 Brownieman, Not sure what you mean about spooling up with the heavy stuff. We caught everything on 1/8oz jigs and 6lb test. In a boat I don't usually too heavy of tackle.
