tippett7 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I got off work around 4:00 pm and was on the water around 4:30pm. I didn't have my day rod with me, so I just used my night rod. I've heard so many people say you can't catch fish on 5x during a sunny day. Well it was sunny yesterday and with little wind. I started out just below Outlet #1 stripping a olive wooly and on my 2nd cast caught a 22 inch rainbow. I said, man this is going to be great. Caught 6 fish after that by switching back and forth from wooly to leach. I'll admit you have to strip pretty fast, but I'm glad I proved the theory wrong!!. You can catch fish on 5x and by the way there were several people using 6x and 7x that caught zero fish.
vanven Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Stripping streamers is the exception where i will go with a heavier than 6x tippett. Since the fish is striking a moving target and the line is typically pointed away from teh fish they dont get the opportunity to see the line. Now fishing a size 20 midge on 5x......you might as well be using twine. -Jerod
