Members LipRipper Posted March 23, 2009 Members Posted March 23, 2009 Decided to hit Stockton Saturday and invited my old man to come along for some father son bonding time. Arrived at Mutton at 7:00 am with a 10 mph wind and the cloudy sky spittin on us. Hit our first bank and 5 minutes later connected with a nice 3lb largemouth on a wart worked the bank on down catching 6 fish with 3 keeps. Hit the next spot and started rippin lips on a variety of baits. Had 20 LM by 9am with 8 keepers biggest going 4lbs. Finally at nine the rain stopped and went to our next area catching another 8-9 on a wart and hula grub with 2 keepers out of that bunch. After that hit a couple more banks with great results. Caught numerous 2-4 lbers and at 3:30 my dad and figured we'd easily caught 50 bass, so we figured we'd start keeping an official tally. From 3:30 to 6:45 we boated 30 LM with the final tally ending up somewhere near 70-80 fish (all bass) with by our modest estimates 30 of them being Keepers (nothing over 4lbs). It was one of those days I won't ever forget as long as I live. Simply outrageous and a great day to spend on the water with ole' dad! Best 5 would've been in the 17-18lb range. None of the fish came off the main lake and did not throw a stickbait all day.
Kramr Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Sounds like an amazing day! CONGRATS! Wife and I are headed to Stockton beginning of April. Mostly targeting SMB and LMB's. Any adivce? What color Wart's were you using? Any advice on what areas to fish? Thanks!

Members TeamKingTuckey Posted March 24, 2009 Members Posted March 24, 2009 A buddy and I went up to Aldrich Sun. to try and head up the river and chase those whites. Put in before sunrise and could see the whites poppin figured it would be a nice day. Fished the bank across the ramp 2 dink LM real quick off the crank. Fished the rest of the bank waiting for a boat to head up river so we could follow. First time taking the big boat up the river and knew there were some shallow spots. started fishing toward the river picked up a couple more LM in the back of a pocket on the jig . Still fishing for whites finally motored up the river to try and get in on some whites and or crappie, boats and people everywhere. no luck and didnt see many others having any. So we head up to main lake to try and salvage the day bass fishin by then it was around 1pm. Got up past highpoint water was 48 where we stopped and the water was clear as can be. Oh and it was winnnddyy. decided head head back to the dirty water. Pulled up to a windy gravel flat with a transition 4 or 5 LM on the crank real quick . Went acros the bank to the timber bluff. water around 54 to 56 WINDY put the boat right on the bluff and started flipping the jig. Flipped at every stick of timber on the bluff bank and I mean on the bank less than 5 ft. besides never fishing stockton for bass we had salvaged the day and caught 30 or 40 more LM with 6 or 7 keepers. 5 best keepers went 19- 20 lbs. Ended up pulling the boat out at dark and had a pretty good time for the first outing on Stockton. In search for "Papa Pump" ><(((*>

Any adivce? What color Wart's were you using? Any advice on what areas to fish? Thanks! Kramr - I was using the natural craw color. If you're looking for smallmouth in April I would target the area between the state park and the Dam in general (pea gravel pockets and coves). Wiggle warts and hula grubs are typically a good bet. If you're looking for Largemouth or crappie try Price, maze or turkey creek. Hope you enjoy your trip and good luck! Chipper T - a.k.a LipRipper

Did hit Highpoint area on Sat and slayed some monster female whites, couple walleye and many smaller LM.
