Hopper Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 WOW! .Probably the best two hours of fishing I've ever had. Fished below zink in some riffles before it runs into the west end of the dam. Caught stripers and hybreds, 15 fish, more hybreds than stripers, the largest striper weighed 14 lbs and the hybreds were pretty much in the 6-7 lb range. Caught them on a modified clouser tied on a 3/0 circle hook with white and Chartreuse neck hackle feathers. The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing.
Evolution Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Good stuff right there, sir. Only if I didn't live so far, I would have gone down there to catch something since the water was running low all day. As for now, I'll just enjoy your pictures.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Nice fish Hopper! The flow was perfect today. That makes me sick...I couldn't get down there today on my day off because I was watching my little girl while my wife was at clinicals today. Wow... Did you go out sunday at all? I guess the wind didn't affect the fishing much huh? Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

I did fish Sunday, almost all day, I believe I saw you and your buddy hit the water around 10:00 and fish more or less in front of the steel gates from the island ? Looks like I'm rained out at work today (what a shame ) going to hit the water later this morning. The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing.
DaddyO Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Hopper, Nice Fish!! I'm going to have to get over there soon. Maybe this weekend depending on the weather. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

That was us...thats where I caught most of my fish the last time I was at Zink but the water level was much lower. When we came back we fished basically where you fished the rest of the time. I woulda came over and said hello if I'd known it was you. Heh, it was also a long slippery walk over to you to pay a social visit Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
DaddyO Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Hopper and OKFlyFisher44, What type of equipment are you guys using to fish for Stripers? I have tied up some Deceivers and Clousers in the colors that you've mentioned. But, what weight Rod are you guys using? Will my 5wt Rod work? DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

I use a 9' 8 wt, with 6' furled leader and 4' of 2X florocarbon tippet, I have seen a few guys use lighter rods but if you hook a 6+ lb hybred or 10+lb striper your in for a heck of a fight. The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I'm using a 9' 7wt w/ an 8-10ft fluorocarbon 20lb leader. Nothing fancy. You could get away with a 5wt but, like Hopper said, if you stick a big striper or hybrid...you're going to really have a fight on your hands. You can get into a setup like mine (TFO rod w/ BPS Hobbs Creek III reel) for around $150 for rod and reel. Figure in a few more $$$ for backing and fly-line. I've used this stick for bass, carp, sand bass, hybrid, and stripers... Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
