Here's a good sized goggleeye that I caught below Bennett Springs. They are very similar to crappie in how they forage and school, and they look like a cross from a perch and a Smallmouth. Readily identifiable by their red eyes, they are also referred to as "Rock Bass"...

Missouri has both warmouth (Lepomis gulosus)

and rock bass (Ambloplites rupestris).

To distinguish the species, count anal fin spines: a warmouth should have three; a rock bass, six.
