OKFlyFisher44 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Just noticed that there's not been any fishing reports for Capps...has anyone been out lately? Or does it just not fish that well in the spring/summer due to the warmer temps? Just curious...and trying to stir up the pot a little Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
timsfly Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I had a customer in on friday that told me they stocked it again last week. But haven't heard much more than that. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
mhall02 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 It's not really affected by temps, more on when the last stocking was.
Members TroutRabbithunter Posted March 29, 2009 Members Posted March 29, 2009 Fished it a couple of days ago and saw a guy catch two nice browns. The hatchery manager at roaring river said they did stock it a week and a half ago with 900 rainbows then again last wednesday with 300 more rainbows. There should be a lot of fish up in there right now.

If you know me you know what that means.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted March 29, 2009 Author Posted March 29, 2009 If there havent been 1200 rainbows carried out in 5gallon buckets. That's no lie there. I'm crossing my fingers that the "bucket-teers" haven't caught them all with their use of corn and power-bait Hopefully MDC will stock it again before we come through in April... Members tgard27 Posted March 30, 2009 Members Posted March 30, 2009 I like the way that Iowa stocks their trout and I think that if MDC would pick this up it would cut down on the poaching, and maybe the cost. Each year Iowa stocks fry into thier stream, the surviving fry have the smarts of wild trout and aren't fooled easily by worms and cheese. Not only would this cut down on poaching, but it might cut down on the cost to raise the fish as well. Just thought that I would bring this up as I am tired of poachers as well. Travis
redbird Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Thats a pretty good idea Travis! So as not to leave the bucketeers out, they could do a 50/50 fingerling to large fish ratio or something like that. Ive read the long arguments on both sides, and I am not a catch and release pureist. I just would like the laws obeyed so that it benifits all who fish. Im not a Cardinals fan, but I am a Cardinal. If you know me you know what that means.
Buzz Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I had planned on stopping by there today after R.R. but didn't have time. Glad to hear they stocked it again. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Members tgard27 Posted March 30, 2009 Members Posted March 30, 2009 Not trying to pirate this post but I like the idea of stocking fry instead of full grown fish. Iowa has had ver good results in thier streams, anywhere from 40 to 60 percent of the fry living at least one year. This would cut down on the poaching and give the added appeal of a hybrid wild trout. I think that I'm going to post this on conservation issue. I'm planning to go tomarrow to Capps, hope that the roads aren't too slick there. Travis
